My unemployment check was direct deposited onto the greendot card that morning, when I called to check balance was a charge for my exact deposit $110.00 that just put a hold on funds. I talked with a "customer service rep" and a "supervisor" who informed me that had to let it clear even though I let them know was not valid charge. Said that the company had all of the right info so I must have done it. Told me I had to contact the merchant to stop it. The merchant was a fake co LALAN CHICAGO, no phone number, no address, no info. Could not even validate as a business, all this while on phone with greendot. Still said had to go through! They were supposed to dispute on my acct as soon as cleared, weeks later I found out they hadn't. I had some bills to pay online so I stupidly loaded on same card 10/20/2011, made a purchase online for 60.00 and the next morning, sure enough, all $340.00 was held for another unknown/unvalidated fake company and charge. Once again talked with supervisors and such, said can't stop it, dispute it. After all these arguments I had gotten account in dispute and closed it. Was told would get money back if merchants couldn't be proved valid. Nope, 30 days later I recieved a letter stating that these false companies had valid claims!! We are back in the same fight!! And they are doing all of this under the false guise of VISA. Greendot isn't even secured against any loss or theft. Dealing with police on this now, BEWARE GREENDOT
