I received the following e-mail:
Hello,

We would like to thank you for sending your resume to Patterson Recruitment & Partners. After reviewing your initial credentials, I think you could possibly be a great fit for our company.

Our Human Resource manager would like to schedule an interview with you before she leaves for vacation early next week. You need to complete the pre-interview screening before we can schedule an interview, which can be found at http://work-with-patterson.info

or the career link on our homepage. Your applicant code is 475287.

Please write down your code, as that is the only way you can gain access to your application and employee profile. Once you complete your screening someone from HR will contact you within 72 hours to schedule an interview.

It led to an official-looking form to fill out. After I submitted the form, a screen came up claiming that due to the Patriot Act they would need to run a credit check to verify applicants' identity-not to actually check their credit score, just to verify identity, and that this could not be done any other way. They provided a link, which went to one of those credit score companies that will sign you up for a free trial and then charge you monthly. It also had a bad reputation on Web of Trust. This is just wrong-if a company wants to do a credit check on an applicant they can do so without making the applicant sign up for a service. I declined to sign up for it.
