I responded to an ad I saw on cars.com. Paul David Bennet responded to my email he said he had a 2006 Jaguar XKR for sale. He said he had bought it in the US. He lost his in the US and moved back to London. He had the car shipped back to London. It did'nt work for him there and he wanted to sell it. He said it was in eBay's custody and we would be protected by the eBay buyer/seller protection plan. He used a E Motors Company name to send the money to. Everything was done under [email protected]. I have all the emails and his name he even sent me his passport (fake I'm sure). I know this was really stupid.

  • I also recently contacted the same person about a different vehicle... http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?listingId=78865273&aff=national&CMP=usedInv
I did get an email response saying the car was in England with additional photos... I 'd love to hear how your deal progressed. I has only been a few days so, you never know.

  • Keith,
I'm still confused. I told Paul and eBay that I wanted my money back. Then Paul wrote back saying he had talked to ebay and signed papers for them and the car was being shipped to me. He assured me everything was ok and I would be well pleased with the car when it arrived this week (Friday). Then I wrote back asking if he could send me the VIN for the car. I have not heard from him yet. That was about two days ago over the weekend too. So I'm not sure why that would be so hard to respond to. I don't know if this is a way to stall for time or what. He sounds so sincere. Then again it has been a few days between responses before. Again I should have ask for the VIN up front. Maybe I'll have good news by this weekend or not. I'll let you know or you can ask again.
    Uneasy,
    Gary

  • just received an email from the same person after I inquired about a toyota Sienna on cars.com I received basically the same info keith did, an email saying he bought the car here in the US but it was moved to England where it currently remained. I forwarded the email to the scam department at cars.com you can do the same at the following address. [email protected] Hope things work out for you Gary.

  • I think I've been had. Wish I'd been as smart as you and done more investigating. I emailed the (eBay team) they responded back. They said the car was in the container and on it's way to the US. It should be there Thursday. Once it's in the US it should be delivered in 48H they will call 24H before delivering it to my address. I don't think the're legit but I don't understand the stalling. I told them there would be no more money sent until the car was in my driveway and all paper work cleared. I will email (eBay team) again Friday to see if it got lost at sea or what other excuse they give. Guess I'll play a little longer. I've emailed Paul twice more with no response. I'm afraid we're done. Thanks for your comments.

  • Gary did you try going to the actual ebay website and looking for email adresses for their car department to see if the match the one you have? Something as simple as a hyphen or one letter different could mean its a dummy address. You may also be able to contact someone there in customer service not using the numbers or address you got from the cars.com guy. Just a thought. Best of luck to you.

  • Also posted an Audi A8L http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?paId=427785918&id=79039129 and when emailed provided virtually the same response. Total scam. Sorry for your losses Gary, but thanks for posting here and alerting the world.

  • If you see anything with paul david bennets name on it don't do it. Apply what I knew and didn't heed. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is!
He did email back saying he was just a poor man trying to feed his kids.
    Beware
