Saw listing in Craigslist for 4wheeler. Price was 1500.00. When I contacted her, she tells me it is in Aurora, MO and would be more comfortable selling it to me on eBay to protect us both. The story was she was divorced and moved back to her hometown and took the ATV with her. She had got the 4 wheeler in the divorce settlement. Next day she sends me a eBay link to view the item and to purchase it. Says the best way to buy it is to purchase 3-500.00 gift cards. Once I purchased this one, she says she has a Polaris Ranger to sell also for 2000.00. The whole time, she is telling me these are her ex husbands and just wants to get rid of them. Once I tried to purchase this one ( with what I thought were secure cards), one of them didn't go through correctly. She contacted me herself over email to tell me this and asked that I try to re-enter the number to see if it would go through. This was a red flag because I didn't know why the seller would be contacting me and not eBay about a payment issue. Once I researched it, I realized what had happened. There was even someone from eBay motors that actually called me to confirm that I would be receiving my items on Friday afternoon at 6. I was contacted by this person twice, even after the transactions were complete. This is where it really doesn't make a lot of sense. Of course, he does not work for eBay motors. Everyone beware. eBay really needs to do something about these gift cards. They need to be able to be tracked by the numbers on the backs. Once I realized the issue, I went on the eBay site and checked the balances on each card to find a couple of them still had a balance still on them. (one had 54.00 and one had 155.01). I decided to get onto eBay to at least buy something with what was left on my card to keep them from using it, but when I put in the number in the gift card area, it said "this card is tied to another account and cannot be used". I contacted eBay and, this being the part I really don't understand, they told me once someone uses the card, it is then tied to their account. My question of course was why can't the just take these numbers and, once they are used again, they would then know who took them. I was told by eBay that they did not have that ability. REALLY???
