This is similar to a complaint made elsewhere on this website against a Mrs. Debbie Mann and a Robert Payne. Same general process. I was contacted by "Colin Mcarthur" at my work email at a university where I teach music and voice lessons. The scammer must troll the directories of US Universities and colleges and their music faculty/departments. "Colin" claimed to be working offshore in California and his "cousin" in my state was taking care of his daughter "Mary" who needed voice lessons. He offered to pay for two months of lessons in advance and send a check that would be in excess of the needed amount and I could remit the "excess" money to him by "moneygram" for Mary's expenses. I did not fall for this but played him along for a while. Just posting it here because I fell for one of these stupid e-mail music lessons scams a few years ago and it has cost me financially but far worse is my realization of how stupid and gullible I was. I have learned a few things and there are online tools to check the actual point of origin of email addresses and I did this for [email protected] and it says it does originate from a server in California. I assume the scammers now have some way to conceal the actual point of origin by forwarding the email through a proxy server so I don't believe this. This is a typical Nigerian scammer email with the usual grammatical errors. I hope someone who gets an email from this "Colin" googles this entry before they fall for this. These scammers are some of the most despicable people on earth, preying on the innocent, like the miserable creeps with Indian accents who call landlines claiming to be from "Windows technical support" or "Microsoft" insisting that you have malware on your computer. "Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord" so I hope that HE will take vengeance against these criminals.
