I was somewhat new to Alibaba, and I found these forum pages a few days too late. I was scammed out of $375 by Shenzhen Chengtu Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.

I contacted the seller through Trade Manager and we continued our discussion through Skype. His name on Skype was Joshua Yang with the email address [email protected]. I bought three HP laptops at what I now know were unbelievably low prices.

Many of the established suppliers here are hesitant to use PayPal because they do not want to deal with PayPal chargebacks. I would strongly encourage anyone looking to purchase samples to use a service like PayPal at least for the samples to protect yourself until you have an established relationship.

The seller had a 1 year Gold site verified status granted by Alibaba. He supplied me with a price list, an invoice, and Western Union payment instructions.

I have submitted a complaint with Alibaba, but the complaint has been processing for almost a week now with no response from Alibaba. I reported the company's listing page as suspicious activity last week, yet it remains listed to scam other unfortunate victims.

I do understand that I was scammed primarily because I did not see the warning signs, and I take responsibility for that.

However, it frustrated me that my "Premium Membership" with Alibaba does not grant me any greater degree of service from them in removing the scammer for the site and it speaks volumes about Alibaba's committment toward maintaining a safe marketplace for its members.
