i brought my 6 yr old pekegenese to PetCo to be groomed and when they gave her back she had pee all over her. That was the least of my worries. Within less than 24 hours my dog became severley ill, throwing up non stop, bloody diarrhea, extreamley weak, and has not ate one thing since shes been back from PetCo. The Vet gave her 3 different shots and meds and she has only gotten worse. The vet said her illness was contracted from another animal or pets feces and the only time she was ever around any other animal or in an environment where she could have contracted this illness was at PetCo being groomed. And she was the healthiest dog alive until taking her to get groomed at PetCo. Also from the time she left PetCo to the time she got sick (the next morning less than 24 hours) was the most susceptible time she could have caught this virus. Its been three days and she has not improved, only got worse. I wanted to write this so all the other animal lovers out there can learn from our lesson. :(

my bills for an 80 dollar dog grooming has so far costed me 500.00

  • Same thing happened to my chihuauah after taking her to the vet to be groomed. Within a few days she had Parvo and nearly died. The vet wanted to keep her in the hospital but i insisted i take her home on IV and Thank God I did because the IV lined plugged up during the night and the was knocking on deaths door. I was able to unplug it and within hours she was feeling better and is healthy today. I will never leave my dog somewhere that has had other animals.

  • To the OP. You negelcted to mention the virus your dog was diagnosed with. If it was parvo, like travis has repeatedly said had happened to his dog, then I need to wonder if your dog, as well as his, was up to date on all the shots. People don't understand that just walking your dog through the parking lot and/or stopping at a grassy area for them to relieve themselves, can easily expose them to many different things. Not every dog that comes to PetCo, PetSmart or any other grooming and retail facility, is healthy or up to date on shots. There is no way for the employees to know this and can't be held responsible for every dog that comes into the store. Protect your own dog. Keep his vaccinations up to date. Same can be said with dog parks and even walking your dog in your own neighborhood. There is always exposure to diseases and fleas.
