People claiming they work for US Government Federal Grant Dept

Today I received a call arround 2:30 PM from a lady that called herself Kate from this number 543-210-9876. She stated that I was selected to received a $5000 grant from the US Government Federal Grant Department, and that I didn't have to pay for it. This money was tax free and that I could use it for anything that I needed to. She also said that they needed a Credit Card number (Visa, Master Card or American Express) so they could deposit the $5000 into it; it didn't matter if there was money on the card or not. She gave me this confirmation # KA2354, and a phone number(202-697-9050) for their confirmation department. She stated that I could not give the confirmation number to anyone because the could get the grant money for themself. She also said that I needed to call the confirmation Department right after the call with me was over at this number 202-697-9050 and they will give me intructions on how to get the grant. I called that number inmediately and they asked me for $60 and I told them I didn't have any money, that I'm a disable american veteran and that they should not try to rip me off; I also told them that I was recording the call and the person hanged the phone and terminated the call. I call back the number and I told them that someone will contact them about the scam they are running. I never gave them any money but I did provided them my my American Express Card which I'm not using for lacks of funds.
