My husband retained Mr. Spencer of Akin Gump to represent him in post-sentencing relief efforts for his federal case. Mr. Spencer spoke with us on the phone, and gave us quite a bit of hope that he would help. We understood results were not guaranteed. However, it was our understanding he was agreeing to file a Motion to Vacate. Instead, he drafted it and then didn't file it. He also had my husband's appeal dismissed, without speaking with him and gaining his permission. He claims to have used the entire $20,000 "reading emails" from me and my husband. The only time he was emailed was for an update because he wasn't working on our file. He never filed the Motion to Vacate. We paid him $20,000 to return our emails and dismiss an appeal we want filed. He has wasted 8 months and $20,000 and we want a refund asap.
