Three years ago, we purchased a package of 12 prepaid weeks at Aldea Thai. The weeks could be upgraded or traded and used over 25 years, one every other year. We gave them $6 plus the deed to another timeshare. The price included an additional $1100 for transfer fees. I knew something was wrong when I got a bill for around $400 in January of the next year, because the front page of our contract clearly stated "ANNUAL FEE WAIVED".
Unfortunately, I was laid up in bed for a year and a half due to back problems and I was unable to pursue the matter effectively, although in retrospect I doubt I could have done much.
After trying for several days to call this company to make a reservation, I got someone on the phone who told me they had no rooms. I went to the hotel and asked to speak to their members services personnel and was told there was no one. They had moved their office to Cancun, apparently to escape the angry members.
I was given a phone and tried to talk to Antonio Lopez, again, about our problem and this is what he told me. They were very aware of the fraud that was committed by the hotels employees, but since he had not sold us the bogus package, he did not care. He had my money and my signature on a contract that had provisions that contradicted the front page. I explained that that would not hold up in court either in the US or Mexico. He said, too bad. No one at this company will ever speak to you in person, under any circumstances. If I try to get restitution they will take legal action against ME.
