I found an ad on Craigslist about a 2005 Nissan Altima. The seller's only contact was a phone number which I looked up that was an area code for Texas. She got back to me two days later (weird) and said email for more info. When I did she told me her son of 24 years old just died with his fiancée in a car accident and the car brings her back bad memories. After looking at the pictures on photobucket she sent, I realized there are no palm trees in Texas. She then told me that the car is in LA at an eBay warehouse that's ready to be shipped. She said she wants to do the transaction strictly through eBay motors so we're both insured. I researched eBay motors and it slickly stated that they cover fraud transactions if the purchase is ON eBay, also that warning signs include: a craigslist ad tells you that they have made arrangements with eBay. That they cover shipping. That the car is somewhere other than their location and if they ask for a money gram or money order. She mentioned the car was in Bouton Ridge, LA. I got an email from "eBay motors" saying the car was in Bouton Ridge, Louisiana... Also the email was asking for a money gram sent to an eBay agent. (eBay states that they don't do money grams, paypal only.) the eBay email was convincing until I tried to contact eBay myself to give them a case number and the more I dug in I got example emails from real eBay motors and they were nothing like what I revived. Also, eBay gave me step by step what the process is of obtaining a car, there was nothing in there showing an eBay email sent with an invoice that I received. I began to get skeptical because a 2005 Nissan Altima SE-R 86K miles in black for only $2,250 seemed too good to be true. I decided to look up "Megan Rae Hammons" for information about her son or her. I found it odd that when I told her I was terribly sorry about her son and that I will keep her family in my prayers, she said nothing to disclaim or thank that kind gesture. So I came across this site and found someone with a post that had the same email from Megan word by word even the end "hope to hear from you soon! Thanks for your interest!" Thank god for this site because I was so close to buying a car that doesn't exist. If you're questioning the legitimate about a craigslist post, just don't do it it's a fraud. Save your money don't bargain. If a craigslist seller proposes an eBay buyer protection program in way of payment, don't fall for it because eBay only protects with purchases ON eBay. If a seller tells you the car is ready to be shipped, no it doesn't exist. If she says she will get the eBay protection program started, it's fake. Both parties need to have an eBay account and transaction on eBay for a real transaction. Do proper research of the car, I looked up the car on eBay motors and it wasn't even posted anywhere. I'm so happy I didn't fall into a scam and it's okay to feel a little dumb about almost falling into it, just laugh
