I work at a bank in Mississippi, in account services. I give customers their account balances, help them with balancing their checkbooks, and other acocunt information over the phone. This number called and a young foreign man was asking for the balance on his account. I asked for his account number, and he gave us the bank's routing number, so I told him it wasn't a valid account number. Then he gave me what sounded like an account number, but when I tried looking it up, nothing pulled up, so I told him it wasn't a valid account number. Then he gave me a social security number, and it pulled up a 74-year old man's accounts. The man lives in southern Alabama, and the person on the phone was a young foreign man... So I knew it was a fraud. I told him I couldn't find any accounts for that SS# in our system, and he said "Ok, thank you." You know if that person actually had an acocunt with us and we told him we can't find any of his accounts in our system, they would be throwing a fit wanting to know why. Since they're scammers, they couldn't get any ifo out of us, and hung up. After he hung up, I googled the number he called from (407-429-5316), and it came up as YMax Communications in Orlando. After googling the number and company name, I found over a thousand scam reports and complaints for this phone number. He then called back, and when I greeted him, he huffed at me and slammed the phone down. I also found sites that said that scammers overseas were able to somehow program their phone to have their number show up as a local number to the US so that it would seem more legitimate. That's scary to know that somehow someone has gotten ahold of your social security number... What's worse is that the scammer gave me an account number that was only one number different from the older man's actual account number. Keep your personal info close people!!! I see every day how it can really screw with your life.
