I received an urgent email plea that purported to be from an old friend from H.S., stating she was in the Philippines and had been robbed at gunpoint. She needed someone to come to her rescue by sending several thousands dollars by western union with the promise to pay it back when she returned.
After several back and forths by email, I got suspicious and gave the person on the other end a "security question" that my friend would have recognised immediately. After an unusually delayed response given the pace of the back and forths, I did a google search for the address "she" gave me. I arrived here to find more victims.
