As per a couple of people on here I too have been screwed by this company. What started as a £500 loan has now cost me £1700.
I fell on hard times and had to defer the loan in 3 consecutive months. This took the loan up to £1400 although I'm not sure how. When they added the interest it went up to £1640.
I called them and explained my situation and to my shame I was convinced into taking a further loan of £150 and we worked out a payment plan which to be honest sounded reasonable. A week later there was no £150 but they waited till payday and took £1700 in stead. I was horrified, couldn't pay the mortgage,or feed my 3 kids. As with others they took it in increments steadily decreasing till they were turned down by my bank when they realised what was happening.
Initially Barclays refunded the money but then took it straight back when CFO refused to cancel the transactions.
I struggled through that month depending on friends and family, but decided not to fight it if it meant the harassing phone calls and emails would stop.
This morning I've had another series of threatening emails from a Pete Saunders (head of collections) demanding a further £760 in additional interest fees. Needless to say I told him where to go and immediately informed the Financial Ombudsmen who have been incredibly helpful. I'm fortunate enough to be a union member and their legal team are now representing me free of charge.
These people are vultures preying on people they think they can bully. My advice is to cancel any active debit/credit cards they may even have a remote chance of having, get them re-issued and keep them secret till you know you're safe. Also don't be afraid to ask for help, its not brave or clever to try and fight bog forms like this on your own and there are people out there that will fight your corner.
