I was recently looking for an online short-term loan. I received several calls from an foreign man several times. He called at least 4 to 5 times daily and left a message each time saying his name is Mark Watson. He expressed that I was already approved for a loan of 2,000. So needing the money I called back. I was told when calling back that I was approved, had bad credit, and needed to purchase a verification router so they could guarantee I was able to make my payments. I was instructed to go to Kmart and show them 120.00, from there they would give me a verification router and I would call back to finish up the last of the process so they could verify I had 120.00. The purpose of this was because they wanted to make sure I had a minimum balance of 120.00 at all times....made no sense to me but I said ok after I was informed after giving the router back I would get my 115.00 back from the clerk because it cost 5.00 for router fee. When the man told to call back he told me to ask for John Wilson, ext 1943. This caught my attention due to the message he had left stating his name was Mark Watson. So before going to k mart I decided to jump on cash net usa and look into rates and fees/how it works. As I looked I discovered cash net usa does not even accept applications in PA, I then clicked to chat with a live rep and was informed that it was in now way their company and to be careful. I then called the number back thinking maybe I got the name of the company wrong, low and behold same foreign man answered Cash Net Usa, I began to explain that I looked on the website and PA apps are not accepted and the name in the name of the man that left the message was Mark Watson not John Wilson, he then covered by saying there is more than one cash net usa and his company was cash.netusa and not to worry, that Mark Watson was his coworker and on his lending team that i'd be on the phone with him thru the whole process and be able to see the money go into my acct within 6 mins of verifying I had 120.00, not to worry just to call back and his extension was 1493 I said ok, hung up, realized now he had given me 2 diff extension and 2 diff names, I then looked for cash.netusa, did not find it, and then pulled up scambook and saw very similar scams with same amounts and all reporting foreign men. I decided I was not going forward with this because it is too risky so I once again called back and told the man to cancel the loan I did not want it and would not be going to kmart. He was speechless! I then continued telling him that I was looking on scambook there are 100s of reports, as he then tried to assure me it was still ok I started questioning the ext numbers he had given me. I asked ok what is your ext again he replied 1943, I then said 2 mins ago you told me 1493 and 5 mins before that you said 1943 so which is it. I then said about the diff names and sounding as same guy on msg and that I was not taking the chance. He at that point simply said ok and hung up on me. If it were ligit I feel he would have tried offering me some type of assurance that could be proven or verified. I see alot of people pay the money, I am just very thankful that I did not because I have a feeling this "verification router" would have somehow had me punch something in that would have been giving them permission to access my acct with me even knowing. I am going to talk to my kmart though and ask why they even endorse such people because it is obviously a scam! He told me there are only 4 stores I could go to Kmart, Riteaid, CVS, and 4th one I dont remember. Hope my post prevents another person being scammed!
