My parents are 84 and 89 years old. A young man came to their house this evening asking them to donate money to purchase books for children in a hospital. He said that is would be $32.00 for a set of books. My mother said that was too much but they could buy one book for a boy and one for a girl. The young man talked to my mother at her dining room table. He went over to my father who was sitting in the room and had him make a check out to cash in the amount of $100.00. The form that my father received indicates that the check was supposed to be made out to Back A Winner. My father wrote the check for that amount because he believed my mother agreed to this transaction. There is an 866 phone number on the back of the preprinted form, but the man wrote another number over it and it is almost unreadable, including the number written over the top. There is a statement on the back of the paper that says the transaction can be cancelled as long as the information is returned with a postmark no later than 3 days from the original date of the sale. However, there is no date listed on the form anywhere. I have put a stop payment on the check through our bank. Since it wasn't made out to the company, I'm sure that it won't be deposited in their account. On the form that was left with my parents, it indicates the recipient is: St. Jews and another word that is unreadable.

Update: 08/29/2013

My mother says the young man told her his name
is Joshua Hunter and he just transferred here to play
football for University of South Carolina
