Met Army Soldier in www.bear.com I am Veteran Gulf War. I am also Gay and just left my partner 1yr 5mth ago. he said he lost his partnerto cancer, he's in the Army in Afganastan Kabul. We had a lot in common. For two months we emailed each other email, music, poems,videos,pictures ect.. We became good friends for what it's worth. He then tells me he is comming to New York on Leave and is going to cash a check of $35,000.00. and was comming to see me. From Afganastan he lands on London U.K. There he was to pick up his check. Gave me a story that there were fees and taxes he needed to pay, he asked me for the moneyand I did through western Union $1109.00. He never came to N.Y. Now he is asking me for more money and so I thought this can not be Mark Leopold. I believe it's stolen Identity I have photos and all our emails

I also met Mark Leopold on a gay website "BI - Australia".He told me exactly the same thing how is Lover died of cancer, how he is in the army serving in (Kabul), and all the other things.. We have been in constant contact since 30/09/2011. After a couple of weeks he sent his Flight details from KLM, to say that he wanted to be with me & no other..A few days later I received an e-mail stating that he needed money to pay Airport taxes etc, I eventually sent him $240:00 AUD through Western Union.. then again a few days later he asked for more money so as he could cash his $35,000:00 cheque, so as he could rush here from London..
    I have now sent him a Loan agreement to sign 3 times, on each occassion he has not signed these, nor has his witness, they have typed their names where they were asked to Print & Sign.

  • I have the same story...same in all details that you guys have...he asked me to send $550 for the requirement fee to release his leave bonus and go to manila to meet me...until now he was continously sending me follow up letters and I did trace his flight details that is a fake one...and now the scambook..he is a scammer! He sent me pictures and believe me he is good in composing such lovely letters...at the end of it all I didn't send anything..not even a single cent..

  • I have been in communication with Sgt Mark Leopold US Army Afghanistan for 3 months. I live in Australia too. He even referred to another US Soldier who (is a scammer) who he knew called Sgt Fred Wendorf. he is clever too. Lots of photos which I kept. Sgt Fred Wendorf asked for the same thing, airport taxes. This mark leopold is to come and visit me in January, but I became suspicious. He hasn't asked for money yet etc, but I will stop it before it goes further. I am so glad I clicked his name on google and your scambook site came up. I have photos of him in case anyone else is being scammed. Just ask me and I will send.

  • I also have all the emails and photos. I also have the copy of the check and the KLM travel papers confirmation. I would like to send it all to you. I'm not sure how. I first need to retrieve it from my trash bin, then I guess I would need email addresses to send it . Guys this really breaks my heart as I said I'm so sorry. But, i don't believe the person in the photos is the person we've been dealing with, I tuely believe it's identity theft. These people could be in Africa for all we know. You all have my email, send me yours and I'll send you what I have. I soon plan to get rid of it all. OMG!!! I forgot to tell you two weeks ago he contacted me again. First email he says "Good Day" the next he asks to chat with me. I know he's is trying to play with my head, I just deleted it. Well, guys just hit me back and let me know what you want me to do. All the best.

  • Well guys, weren't we all gullible to this creep, as you would have noticed, I mentioned in my original remarks, I have copies of his KLM Flights, cheque & his photo,s. Must admit I was sucked in by his looks.. Seems he must have made up a letter, then just inserted our names separately as he sent us his letters. I was a little suspicious of some of his spelling etc. Believe me guys as the saying goes.. "WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND" so yes he will get caught out sooner than he expects.

  • Hi, I have been writing to this guy for 3 months. Very handsome man and beautiful letters. I have been in love even though he is killing some Talibans in Afghanistan. This is Sergeant Mark Leopold, 36yrs. He is working hard in Afghanistan and his partner died 2 yrs ago from cancer. Now he is on his way to Iceland to spend 6 weeks with me. When asking me for 550 pounds to get a vacacation check of 22 thousand dollars, I got supicious as I have been deceived before. I made him call me. His accent was African and on the phone he was not acting very well. He forgot to be loving and saying nice words. Tomorrow I am supposed to send him money via Western Union, as he spent all his money on the ticket with KLM. The guy on the pictures is probably innocent. But I want my revenge. This bloke has been playing with my feelings and making me feeling ridiculous. I want him to go to the bank... but in vain. Let's join and find this guy... well, he probably reads this... anyway take care you victims... love u all...

  • yes, from Afghanistan... him with a training dog...with some young boys in Kosovov, etc. He called me last night and is expecting his money. His flight is due tomorrow. I had told him he didn't need to buy a flight ticket as I work with an airline and could give him a free ticket and told him to cancel it. No, that was not possible. He is not so smart.

  • Dear, Victims of mark leopold, This is combatmarine69/Adrian. I was the first to put in the comlpaint on this character. I lost money, trust in people. My heart was broken, I to want revenge I've contacted various deparments of authorities. I hope something is done. My heart tellsme nothing will nor will they put a rush on it. We are a group of Gay men, meeting other men on the internet. Do you really think they care about us? "NO"!!!!! ?I am now communicating with this low life, ?I've been playing with head as he did witrh me, I'll never get my money back, but so be it. I am enjoying messing with his head. He thinks I am sending him 850pounds I have him waiting for it. I don't give a shit if he is reading this. He pleaded with me that he is not the person we all are speaking of, that He is the victim of identity fraud. Along, with the BullShit, of how he cares and loves me and wants to work things out with me. He also wants to come to New York so he canwork it out with me. Pleaded trhat I remove the complaint with scambook and to write to you all and ask that no more be posted on him and him being a scammer. Forgive me but..., FUCK HIM!!!!!!! I smile everytime I write him and email him it's all I can do as revenge, I feel better :-)

  • Interesting to read about your own encounter with Sgt Fred Wendorf, duckhaven. I’m from New Zealand, (this scammer seems to like ppl downunder!) he contacted me beginning of the year, supposedly a 32 year old German born guy in US Army, fighting in Afghanistan, seeking a deep loving relationship via Manjam.com gay dating. Some nice emails from him made me feel at long last, at 43, I’d finally found true love in the making. Seemed quite good for a while, then he was planning to get leave and come visit me in New Zealand but I was travelling to UK, so then he was going to come to me in UK. Sounded great, but then he said I had to fill out some sort of leave invite from from his upper rank, and in this, was sent a phoney form in which I’d have to pay an insurance fee of $100 US. Instantly was suspicious, and left it at that, with a few words to this supposed sergeant. Little more was said until last week, an email of plea from Sgt Wendorf that he desperately needed money… I told him I could see he was a scammer, how on earth could a US soldier be short of US$100?? He told me he was not a scammer and gain pleaded me to help him. Of course I started to feel guilty, starting to wonder if I was denying some poor soldier of money, somehow broke. He said he’d prove it on video chat, so gave my address… haven’t been online with him yet. I informed him I now have a boyfriend (though shaky long distance r’ship) and opened my heart, the reply was direct back to the money. So again I have asked for true official proof he is a Sgt of the US Army.

    Obviously stolen identity…

    No reply. And I sure won’t be giving him a red cent now made the wise move to Google his name and find him on here!

    Be interested in comparing pics but do not want to leave my addy on here and get more junk mail…

    As for reading about this other asshole Leopold… I can’t say much more, not only ripping people off via their trust and often loneliness, but masquerading as a soldier, using identities of ... that’s lower than a snakes belly. Sorry to hear of your heartbreak with this low life, combatmarine69, thoughts with you. Hope you are mindgaming him well and stressing him, they deserve a lot worse... if only they could be rounded up.

  • Hello there, Thank you for sending me the message on "Sgt Fred Wendorf". I think that Sgt Fred and Sgt Mark Leopold are one in the same. Unfortunately I did delete my pics of Sgt Fred, he did the same to me, but it was the "Mark leopold" KLM tickets and cashing a cheque etc etc. Thankfully I was suspicious and haven't sent any money to any of them
    I feel so sorry for the emotional stress these scammers have caused to everyone. I feel particularly sorry for combatmarine69 and the loss of money , and all the others too.
    Now there is another one who briefly contacted me called Sgt samuel beaird. When I mentioned to him about my suspicions about Fred Wendorf. he quickly disppeared.
    THese scammers are clever. In fact I was chatting to MArk leopold when he suddenly mentioned that I hadn't told him about my relationship with Fred Wendorf. And I told him about what happened with him, etc and he said that he had discussed with his army mates his interest in me and Fred Wendorf told him that I was not caring. So they are probably the same. I haven't heard from Mark leopold since I told him I found his name on google when I was checking about Fred Wendorf, and not to contact me again. he hasn't.

    I haven't received any reply from the US Defense authorities either about the stealing of their soldiers' identities. Hope they do tell the real soldiers what has happened.
    Like you, I also fell in love. Luckily I didn't pay the price
    I think we are getting them. let's hope they are caught.

    I have had to tell friends that this was all fraud and it made me feel kind of stupid... yes, admitting I was lonely... spending xmas again alone... well I have my cats... I don't have any faith in people in general...
    He stopped cantacting me after I told him the truth that I had been fooling with him and making him spend telephone costs to my mobile in Iceland. Merry Christmas all of you... let´s try to cheer up!

  • Thanks duckhaven etc... yes, I was just looking through all the emails he sent me, really seemed like true love in the making. Down to earth, sith simple morals and ideals, a soul seeking love for life, with someon who mirrored his soul. I remember thinking I was all set up with this guy, after the more obvious Russian scammers, this was a lot less detectable... and not being a person in poor financial status, I believed my life was about to truly begin at long last. But, not the first time. And indeed worse for those who actually lost money as well as trust betrayed. Each year have had this or gold digging guys (like Filipino guys I went to meet) after me for money, the current one I'm not sure, (Indonesian guy I met) but for all it's lifetime promises and love, it's on its way out, but the issues for once isn't over money. If only I was born straight! Xmas is a time I just try forget much as possible, never shared one with a partner yet by 43, but for most its an easy reality by early 20 something so I just keep clear of it much as possible, and new year.
