My sister responded an ad on craigslist for a house for rent in Jacksonville, FL. She replied and was sent an application, which she filled out. I am assuming a man pretends to be Timothy Anthony White answers the phone (323-379-3486), which by the way is a google internet phone, and pretends to be married to a Sandra White. He asked for money for deposit and first month rent total of $1450 wired by Western Union ASAP so that he can send keys next day.

PLEASE REPORT THIS TYPE OF SCAMS BY FOLLOWING STEPS:
1-Forward all fraudulent emails to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at [email protected].

2-Forward phishing emails to the federal government's United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT: [email protected]) and to the Antiphishing Working Group ([email protected]).

3-File an ID Theft Complaint Form with the FTC (www.ftc.gov/idtheft)

IF YOU LOST MONEY THEN ALSO DO THE FOLLOWING:

-File a report with your local Secret Service field office (listed in the Blue Pages or at www.secretservice.gov), or

-File a complaint with the Internet Crimes Complaint Center (www.ic3.gov), a joint venture of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crimes Center (NC3W), which offers an easy online form that you can use to report online scams and fraud. The IC3 will collect your information, add it to federal databases that help track similar crimes and refer your complaint to the proper local, state, federal or international authorities for investigation.

Be Wary if:
Someone is too persistent asking for money. If you can't meet the person. If you can't view the inside of the house. If you are giving too many names.

TIPS:
Deeds of the houses are public records, you can view it online just to confirm that the person is the rightful owner of the house.
