I received a phone call from a lady with an Indian accent stating that she was ringing on behalf of Windows XP.She said that the company had been doing routine checks on pc's and had detected major problems with ours. She asked if it had been running slow, crashing etc, which it certainly had been. Not being technically minded,I believed her story about the offer to clear all viruses and provide ongoing support. She then transfered me to a male person with an Indian accent, who then convinced me to turn on my computor and click here, there and everywhere, showing me errors and viruses in my pc.Everything was very convincing and certainly very well done.I was then asked to pay a one off amount of $379 which would give me lifetime service and protection for my computor.Although hesitant at first,I was eventually persuaded to pay this amount. They then proceeded to e-mail me an invoice and information with e-mail addresses and phone numbers for 24hr support.I truly believed I had done the right thing.$379 was a small price to pay for lifetime service and support for someone who does get into strife with their pc.A week later I went overseas with my daughter for 2 weeks, during which I had a phone call from my husband to say that all sorts of strange things were happening with our computor. He got a friend to have a look and that is when we were told we had been scammed.Frantically we checked our banking and luckily nothing has been touched. We have received a couple more phone calls from "TECHGEEK",saying they have detected someone trying to get into our computor and require us to set up a new log in id.Obviously I am now ignoring these calls.
