Well, this story makes me sad and makes me wonder where the world is going. I am lucky a series of events made me not be able to transfer the funds, but I am still sad I feel for it and kept denying the evident (it was a scam from the start) A week ago I responded to an online ad on catsadoption.com for a Cornish Rex, the ad claimed it was in Winnipeg, Manitoba, a free pure breed cat, in my area, Awesome I told myself and here is how it started with her response: "Hello thanks for the interest. They are three in number, male and female called Micky,Micky rex and milly respectively.I am a retired veterinarian and i raised them my self .
Below are their details
Sex: Male and female
Specie: Cornish rex kittens
Age: 11 weeks old
Living Conditions: They can live any where and have a good feeding habits.
Trained: home and out door trained.
Health Condition: excellent in health condition, vet
checked, treated with Nemex II wormer, registered and confirmed health guarantee.
They are very good friends with humans and other animals.
My kittens can only be released if the following is agreed
-These kittens shall not be declawed.
- You must provide adequate indoor sanitary facilities with proper veterinary care and will receive annual veterinarian visits.
- They must not be sold since am giving them out for free.
-You have the right to neuter or spay this cat between the ages of 5 and 7 months.
Have you a pet before? Where are you located? Thanks" She sent a picture of all 3 cats along. After I replied with saying I would respect her request: She responded this :"I love my kittens so dearly. But i am placed in an unprecedented predicament at this point in time which has forced me to release them to any caring home.I have been booked for surgery and am running out of time.
Can we meet at my home tomorrow? If not we can use a pet transportation agency to transport the Kittens to your home address.I send a baby to a college lecturer in Dawson city, yukon two days ago.The cost of transportation is 200 dollars for a kitten and 400 dollars for two.The following products are inclusive in the above fee.

1)Flight ticket
2) pet passport
3) pressurized pet Crate
4)vaccination
5)Menu guide book.

As soon as i receive the details below,i will send the kittens to your home address.

your full name
your postal code
your home address
your phone number
During the registration, the delivery agency will use the above details to draft the adoption and transfer of ownership certificate. And finally to locate your home during delivery.
My address...
Name.....Christie Latham
Age .....56 years
Marital status....widow
Disable...deaf
Address.......135 MCKEE AVE,TORONTO ON.M2N 4C5
As soon as i have your delivery details, i will register the kittens at the delivery agency to your home address. There after the delivery agency will contact you about the following
Method of payment of the transportation fee of the kittens which will be used to activate the flight ticket.
Time of departure
Time of arrival
Time of delivery to your home address." ***This email looks similar to the other one I am seeing in this scam story***
I then responded asking for different pictures to see a full body one and also asking a brief description of each cats temperament to ensure I was picking the right fit for me. She sent me more pictures ***Problem, the picture of the female was the picture of a different cat, same breed but different cat it was obvious... When confronting her and asking who and why this cat was different she or he or whoever I was speaking with never responded and I asked many times...I also asked the number of the office she had dealt with so I could call, but again, no answer on that matter. then I say I am interested in Micky Rex (Because from the first email she told me she had 3 available one call Micky Rex) Her response was: "I had three kittens.
I released micky rex some few days ago. So milly and micky are now left.As soon as you confirm the baby you want to adopt,i will proceed with the registration.I may use either Jet pet ,Pet carrier or Animal carrier"Then after I told her which one I had picked she told me she would go register it at the agency And then I received this email:" Hello Melissa
I have registered your Cornish rex kitten at the delivery agency. They were about to contact you before i left. Am sure you must have heard from them . When you are to pay for the transportation fee via any wire transfer store,if asked the purpose of the transaction. Do not mention business or Pets. If you do, they will induce high transfer charges to you since they will categories the transaction under commercial purpose. Just tell them you are sending the fee to a friend, brother or to a guest. This will make provisions for normal transfer charges, since it will notify the officials that you are not purchasing the kitten. The kitten is coming along with an adoption and transfer of ownership certificate. At least you will be able to do something with the left over. This advice was given to me when i was about to complete the registration. please update me as soon as you make the payments for the activation of the flight ticket. Thanks for accepting to send pictures of the kitten upon arrival." Then I receive a "confirmation" email from [email protected] I think it's fishy for 2 things; First it asks me to send the payment through Western Union to :VALDEZ AKO SAMJEI, Arlington Texas, 76013. Second, the "Our history" memo at the bottom of the email does not add up At the beginning it says:"ANIMAL CARRIER was founded on October 1st, 1999 by Sandy Cole." then further in the memo it says :"At ANIMAL CARRIER we have provided pet transport services all over the globe since 1992." Then when asking the "seller" why my payment had to go to Taxas, she answered :"Please i believe the agency is in the best position to answer this question. However they explained to me when i was about to do the registration, that as soon as the payment is made, their director of budgets ,partition and control will endorse an electronic signature to validate the payment for an instant activation of the flight ticket." and: "Please i am sorry for the late reply.I am not feeling very strong today. It is 200 Canadian dollars." *** Then silly me proceed to creating an account with Western Union, and THANKFULLY I could not remember my secure code and I was unable to re-create one through my bank!!And this is when I went home and instead of searching on google for a Christie Latham I searched for the name of the person the payment was suppose to go through and ended up seeing all the complaint on scambook!! I did not get extorted per say but I was still caught in this scam...
