I ordered "The Help", was sent to me on August 23, 2011. On September 1, 2011, I sent a check for $12.73 to cover book, S&H, and tax. On September 8, 2011, Doubleday Book Club made a "Direct Debit" to my checking account for $12.73. On October 8, 2011, I received a "past due notice" from Doubleday Book Club that I still owe the $12.73 plus $3.00 in late fee. A conversation with a CSR at Doubleday named Kristan proved to be a waste of my time as she refused to rectify this error. I believe this is a stunt they pull often, thinking people don't retain their proof of payment and therefore are able to scam their customers. I have my proof of payment, so Doubleday can turn it over to a collection agency if they desire, but I will not pay again. In addition, I have been a customer for many, many years but I am cancelling my membership today.
