These folks are claiming I've won the lottery in the UK...first of all that's a bit strange that the UK would pick winners that don't even buy a ticket. The check is for 3990, but they promise 150,000 if you just pay the taxes...but shhhh...keep it confidential. (otherwise all your friends will tell you what an obvious hoax this is.) Details are much like everyone else's. AIRES PH. INC.on the check from Silicon Valley Bank, and CostCO on the envelope supposedly postmarked in Canada. These people are just sorry for trying to take money from innocent people. It may be just one person, going from state to state, collecting a couple grand from several stops during the day. The letter explains that you have to pay 1995 to the "tax agent." It figures if you were to send a couple thousand of these out, it would be safe to bet there would be at least a couple percent to fall for it, so that's a quick 80,000 to pick up from 40 addresses.
