Received a letter in the mail today postmarked from Madrid Spain. Thanking me for my participation in an important survey. Inclosed was an "official check" for $1995.20
Upon close examination of the check, the only thing noticably out of place is the order of the routing# account # and Check # from left to right. The routing number...although the correct number for the bank the check is supposed to be issued on, Bank of America...is listed in the middle with the check # first at the left, routing #, then the account #.

- I received the same letter and check today. What's this all about? What will likely happen if I deposit this apparently valid check?

- You can take that check into the bank and they can verify it. I had the same thing happen with a craigslist scam and a roommate. Went to deposit the check and the teller said it was fake, they then confiscated the check and turned it over to authorities. I do have a photo copy. Just ask a Bank teller to test the paper. Hope this helps
