Problem Detail: Brian E. Geerts, CPA has not completed my income tax return to IRS. I have scheduled an appointment on 16th Feb 2013 for Income Tax Return Submission. I initially visited him on 16th Feb 2013 for 1040 submission (electronic) and he said that he’ll notify me with an exact estimate within a week. He did not provide me with any response ever since 16th Feb 2013 so I had to stop by his office on 1st March 2013. Brian E. Geerts provided me with copies of 1040 documents and he said that the Federal Tax portion has submitted to IRS on 1the 1st March (Two weeks after my actual appointment date with him). My income tax return for Federal portion has not deposited so I sent him three emails for status update from 25th March to 29 March. Brian E. Geerts has not responded to any of my email requests for tax filing status update.
I also checked IRS ‘Where’s my Refund’ portal via https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp during March and there is no status for my tax return. Since he has not been responding any of my email, I visited his office again (for the 3rd time) on 2nd April and he said that Federal Tax return was not submitted properly due to an issue of his software. He also mentioned that he re-submitted it and I should be able to receive my return by 12th April 2013. I was checking thru IRS website from 3rd April to 7th April and there is no status posted for my tax return submission. I called his office on 4th April 2013 and his secretary said that my information will be populating in IRS website on 10th April 2013 (one week from the submission date). According to IRS homepage, Refund status should be available within 24 hours after the IRS receives e-filed tax return. Therefore, my return status should be available on 3rd or 4th April since Brian E. Geerts submitted my e-file tax return on 2nd April (according to Brian E. Geerts). Bottom line is that there is none of my tax return information available in IRS website as of 22:55 CST on 7th April 2013. I have been asking Brian E. Geerts several times for return of my supporting documents that I have submitted to him. He has been also mentioning my state tax portion has giving him an error so that’s why he had to keep those documents (since 1st March 2013). I have been working with various CPAs and Tax Preparation agencies last 17 years but this is the first time taking over 45 days for tax return. The issue is that I still have not received my return yet and there is no posted status in IRS website.
Bottom Line: I really appreciate for providing free tax preparation services to Active Duty Military members. However, Brian E. Geerts has not provided any service I reality since I have not received my tax return. My initial visitation was on 16th Feb 2013 and I have not received it as of 7th April 2013 (50 days). At the same time, Brian E. Geerts has not provided me with any proper responses in a timely manner but I had to physically visit his office.
It has been very frustrating and stressful for me to wait for poor service along with non-professional response from Brian E. Geerts At this point; I cannot afford wasting of additional days with him since the deadline of 2012 tax submission is only a week away. I’m coordinating other professional CPA and tax preparation agencies to complete my 2012 income tax return. Please have Brian E. Geerts to return my supporting documents so I’m able to complete my tax return for 2012. I rather pay to a(an) CPA or agency who is fully capable to complete any tax related submission in a timely manner than Brian E. Geerts’s worst quality of free service offerings.
