NARRATIVE:

Mr. Bill Bynum, owner of BYCO Van Lines, Roswell, NM, provided a moving cost estimate along with assurances that only his own equipment and personnel would be used for the loading, transportation and unloading of our household goods. He also urged the purchase of additional insurance in case of accident or damage to our household goods which would be fully insured after purchase of the additional insurance.

OUR EXPERIENCE:

Bynum changed the prescribed date for loading, from a signed and sealed contract, three times for their own convenience.
They charged $1,000 above the written estimate for the relocation.

BYCO workers rented a truck from U-Haul instead of providing their own equipment.
The size of the load was not properly estimated; hence the truck was insufficient to hold all of our household goods. (We had moved a great deal of furniture ourselves to the new location between the time of the original estimate and the time of the relocation.)

BYCO workers failed to bring the proper padding and loading equipment which were promised and had insufficient padding and equipment from U-Haul. The loaders began to use our personal equipment.

Bill Bynum promised a 4-hour load time but ended up taking 12 hours to load because they had to obtain an extra open air trailer to hold the rest of the household goods. These goods were not protected during the relocation.

BYCO workers loaded boxes upside down. Workers stood on our furniture to load and unload in the van. They failed to use proper padding to protect the furniture such that the solid wood pieces were gouged and damaged. Every piece of wood furniture also had the finished marred during the transportation. Damage was also sustained to the house into which the goods were delivered. We requested that the BYCO employees be more respectful of the property, which only caused them to retaliate by being more rough.

BYCO workers requested the use of our tools to disassemble and to reassemble furniture.
We filed an insurance claim with Mr. Bill Bynum for the damages that we had incurred due to the negligence and mistreatment by his staff. We provided full documentation and photos of the damaged furniture.

BYCO never insured the goods with an independent insurance company. He self -insured and kept the insurance premium while declining to pay the claim – after a 10 week waiting period.

Bynum failed to offer to have damaged goods repaired which we suggested as an appropriate option.

Mr. Bill Bynum has failed to pay our claim or to have anyone come out and repair our furniture.
