Bikeberry has an area called "why shop bikeberry.Com". In that area they tell you they will provide a DVD installation guide to complete the installation of the kit. The DVD installation is just a general walk through on the steps of installation and does not cover the detail troubleshooting required for correct installation. I later found out from others that this is basically worthless for a correct installation. They also state that "you will be covered for life! Have a problem? Give us a call or email us, we'll work together to solve the problem". Well this advertisement is misleading. When I called for help they say they can't help and I need to consult a mechanic. Nowhere on their web site to they tell the consumer that they will need to hire a mechanic to have the engine installed. The statements made by the customer service people are scripted i.e. "we are so sorry that you are having problems with the installation. We cannot help you because we are not there to see if the installation is correct. Please consult a mechanic". Refund the $237.00 to me. I gave them that amount of money and got nothing in return.

the fact is there are hundreds of people dealing with the same problem i am. please visit the forum at Motoredbikes.com and you will read about all the problems these kits have and read about people purchasing these kits and having nothing but problems with them. On this site you will read about problems with the quality of the products i.e. (1) the CDI are defective a lot of the times (2) the clutch has to be adjusted (3) the carborator is so cheap you will need to spray it with carburator fluid to get it started (4) you may need to put gasoline in the spark plug to get the engine to turn over (5) you will need to cut the wire on the CDI and reattach it because it is usually defective when it is done at the factory (6) you will need to buy a new spark plug boot at an auto parts store because the one in the kit is poorly made (7) you have to treat the engine 'like a china doll' because it is so particular (8) you may need to pull start the bicycle behind a car or truck because it is hard to start the first time. The customer service at Bikeberry was no help at all and they do not

  • The nature of these bicycle engine kits requires you to completely modify a standard bicycle and turn it into a motorized bike. These small engines are for recreational use and are perfect for mechanical hobbyists and modification enthusiasts. The installation guides we provide are for general installation. Since not all bicycles are created the same, some modification that is specific to your bike is necessary for proper installation and is not available in our installation booklet or DVD.

The quality of the DVD installation matches the installation guide our customers’ receive with every kit. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the DVD’s quality, because it is in no way in any production quality a high budget feature would ever be. Many customer’s feel that the DVD is helpful because it provides a video reference of the installation build rather than pictures. However, we understand that it is not a perfect solution, but we created the video to provide as much help as possible and it’s free. We even provide free technical support over the phone as well as the option to provide pictures via email if the descriptions of their issue are too difficult to understand without visuals.
While a mechanic is not necessary, if a customer is not mechanically inclined and has trouble following instructions or understanding their engine, sometime we recommend an experienced analysis of their motor from a mechanic if it is convenient for them.

  • This particular customer has been helped by our customer service numerous times as we provide technical support and parts service to make sure he gets his motor running properly. In speaking with our customer service staff, all of them recall speaking with this customer as he has almost always yelled and used incredibly profane language with our staff. Further, he continually verbally abuses our staff, not allowing them to speak. The customer should understand that we are here to help him but we are not here to take his verbal abuse. We are unable to assist him if he does not allow us to speak.
November 16th, 2012: We provided him a free replacement sparkplug, even though he was responsible for incorrectly gapping his original one resulting in user error issues. This information can be found in his post at motorizedbicycling.com: http://motorbicycling.com/showthread.php?t=43998
December 19th, 2012: Another exception was made and we provided a free electrical component to the customer, even though the part that was claimed to be defective was not.

We even tried servicing this customer through motorbicycling.com: http://motorbicycling.com/showthread.php?t=43998
Our forum representative is under the username: BikeBerryJen
Within his forum post, it is clear that he does not know enough about these engines to sufficiently deem any defective manufacturing issues he strongly claims.

“the fact is there are hundreds of people dealing with the same problems I am.”
This is not an accurate statement. If there are in fact any problems with the engine or its parts, they are covered under warranty. We are happy to cover the unit under warranty, however the customer need to allow us to help him without using profane language and cuss our staff out.

    (1) (5) (6) The CDI's have a defect rate of approximately 1%. Fortunately, we provide a 6-month warranty on all manufacture defects. We have, on many occasions swapped out his defective items and have made exceptions to send him parts without any exchange.
    (2) (7) Gas-powered engines inherently come with required tuning and calibration, especially with a brand new, never been used engine. It is mentioned in our instructions as well as in many popular forums (motoredbikes.com and motorizedbicycling.com) that adjusting the clutch, carburetor, and breaking-in a brand new motor is necessary for peak performance and longevity. Depends also where you live and the altitude of your location, adjustments differ. We have advised him over the phone, conversed over email, even provided YouTube videos that would help resolve his issue.

  • (3) (4) (8) All absolutely unnecessary procedures to start your motor. These are not solutions, and in many ways, old wives’ tale. These are simple 2-Stroke motors that only require spark, air, and gas for proper combustion and crank rotation.
We have not only been extremely helpful in all facet of this customer’s ability to communicate, but we have provided exceptional service trying to resolve his issue either by parts replacement or technical support over the phone, email, and forums. Any other issues this customer has, it may be due to user error and a mechanic may be helpful to find him the proper remedy. And of course, we are always more than happy to talk to him over the phone and email to see if we can provide any advice for him. All of our staff is trained to speak to all of our customers with courtesy and respect, we simply ask that the customer return the favor by speaking to our staff with the same type of courtesy and respect. If the customer continue to use verbally abusive language and does not allow our staff to speak, we will not be able to assist him in getting the engine properly installed.
