Sold my iPhone 4S on craigslist a man named Mike Daneil emailed me ([email protected]) told me he would offer me $545.00 USD for my phone. He said to send him a request on paypal for the money. I got an email from [email protected] (fraud email) which is not really paypal. It said I would be funded the money from paypal once I comfirm the shipping number. So I shipped the product then I confirmed it and it said I would be funded within 24 hours. Still today(12-2-12) I have not been funded my money. I went on google.com and typed in the "paypal email address" and came up as a fraud email.

  • Thank you for sharing your experience. I see a lot of scammers on craigslist so I want to share my experience with ebay and paypal to help drive these scammers out of business. One should never ship anything until the payment has been received(log into your paypal account and see the money there). Don't trust email messages since those can easily be fake. No store ships anything until the payment has been received and cleared. If you follow these rules you will avoid 99% of the scammers on craigslist.

A more sophisticated scammer will hack into someone's paypal and send you money that way. Eventually, the real account owner will notice the unauthorized transactions and paypal will deduct the payment from your account. To avoid this problem, you should only ship to paypal confirmed addresses and only addresses in the US. This rule will allow you to avoid 99% of this type of scams. If the value of the item is over $250. Make sure you require signature upon delivery. It's a paypal requirement to satisfy seller protection.
