  • Yes, this is a scam. The first clue is that they are using an email, not a legitimate contact in the first place. And, since they never say who they actually are, as in what Branch of any Department of the government. Plus, no government office will ever just tell you in such a way that you could even dispute the claim, as you can here because a twelve year old in Bahrain could easily orchestrate soemthing along this line, as long as he/she can lie, it's open season on internet scamming.

    I just wonder how they got the email address from fbi.gov and then I thought that if they just signed up to a PayPal website or something with that as their name, and it just looks like it's their conact info. Example: my name on Facebook could (hypothedically) be [email protected] and then I could list it somewhere like in an email or a notice or a virus like they did to you. My brother also got the virus and contacted them at fbi.gov and they confirmed it.
