I became aware of weatherseal roofing services by way of a leaflet sent through my letterbox offering a range of roof repair services, which took my interest as my guttering was in need of being replaced. Prices quoted on the leaflet was a promotional price of £445 for replacing soffits, bargeboards, fascias and guttering so work started on the 16/7. When completed, I was duly advised to upgrade my roof tiles to get rid of the moss and to apply a preventative coating on the tiles for a price of £875 as quoted on the leaflet and to which I agreed so I gave them the go ahead to continue with this. When that was complete I was then informed that there had been some damage to the edge of the roof as my house is at the very end of a terraced row of houses, and explained what had to be done and recommended that this get done before winter sets in. The total for this job plus the others completed was to come to a total of £2800 which they say was a good price as I was paying cash. I originally wanted to write a cheque but thy said that by paying cash I would get a discount of £180-hence the above price quoted. So I went ahead convincing myself that it would of benefit to maintaining my home. When the job was done and paid for, the workman then pointed out that the skylight window on my roof was needing to be sealed properly. I checked and agreed it would be best to get done so they said that alongwith this job they would powerwash and treat the walls, paint the windowsills and drainpipes for a total of another £2600 cash. At this point I was becoming aware of the amount of money I was paying out but how do you argue this and end up marring the relationship you have with them when I was dependant on them to do a good job on my house? Also by this time they knew I was a woman living by myself as one of the colleagues had asked whether I had a husband or boyfriend living with me and the answer was "no". So the job went ahead. When that was completed and the £2600 handed over, he then pointed out another job "needing done", stating that they would strip and seal all my external woodwork -doors windowframes etc for £650. I refused and he still tried to persuade me-saying he will give me overnight to think about it and return in the morning. I still said no hoping that he wouldn't return, but at 8.50am next morning he did return and said that the said job will be done for £500. I still refused whilst maintaining my composure as by this time I had enough of him. I had handed over £5400 and he still wanted more. Unbelievable. But I did point out to him that my external wall light cover had been damaged due to the powerwashing which should be put right by them, and I also requested a receipt showing the work complete with its charges. He said that this would be sent through the post alongwith a 10 year guarantee. That was the 21/7/12. Nothing came since then so I gave him a call mid August to remind him of this. He assured me that I would receive this shortly. By this time I had noticed other damages. Bricks had been dislodged from my corner planter and a brick removed from my driveway adjacent to the planter. the powerwashing of the walls not only cleaned the walls but also cleaned off a lot of the harling from the walls- making some bare patches and a mess of stones scattered on various parts of the garden. On the night of 1/9, strong winds worked its way along the roof's dry ridge which they put up. A few caps had fallen to the ground whilst the rest had separated from the roof's edge in a row-dangling in mid air and eventually fell off with the continuing winds. Next day I phoned the company explaining what happened, requesting it to be fixed. I was informed they had a big contract in Glasgow and would get in touch with me at he earliest convenience. I received no word for 2 weeks so I gave them another call on the 16/9-by this time all of the dry ridge had fallen off and lying on my garden path. I was duly told they would get in touch with me before the end of the month then I reminded him of the receipt that I should have got the month before which I still havent received. He muttered something then the phonecall was ended abruptly by him. Meanwhile on checking the roof I saw the formation of moss on the streetside of the roof. I thought that the idea of treating the roof tiles was to prevent the moss from reforming-as suggested on the leaflet. However I thought best to wait for them to contact me at the end of the month as they suggested and take it up with them then. However- surprise surprise-no word by 1st October. On the 2/10 I called them-went through to their voicemail and left a message requesting them to give me a call and gave them my mobile number. Today is the 4/10- there had been no answer form them so this is why I am now voicing my grievances as I know I have been vastly overcharged-the workmanship was poor-the damages as mentioned earlier-not rectifying the dry ridge when they were notified-their reluctance at producing a receipt. I felt that in their case it was a money making scam- the way that they even demanded more work when I said no without taking heed of the quality of work that they should have delivered. People- every body- please be aware of scammers. I've experienced this-please don't fall into theis same trap.

  • Seeking Resolution: Other
  • I would like a refund for all the stress caused me through this and for my dry ridge to be put back in place but not by the same people.
