I filled out a Rent To Own application on line and Linda from Silver State Homes called me. She said she was a 'non-traditional' lender and could arrange financing if I qualified. She had me fax her my 2 recent bank statements and payroll stubs along with a copy of my drivers license and social security card. She said that I qulaified, no problem, and there was a $4500 down payment that would need to be paid before she could guarantee funding. After I sent all the docs, she said I needed to pay through WalMart Green Dot Cards. Each card held $1000 so I had to get 5 cards. When I asked why she wanted to be paid that way, she said that she had been burned by people who stopped payments or reversed bank drafts. She told me that she could get me funded or I would get my money back. I went out and found a house and put $500 in earnest money on it. She was to underwrite the financing and order title. Between me and my realtor, we tried to make sure this was on track and closing would take place as specified. We had to get an extension of the lease purchase agreement to Aug 12th, but because that closing date was after my move out date on my condo, I had to quickly rent and sign a lease elsewhere. The purchase closing never took place since Linda did not even order the title, and she has not been heard from since July 22 when she sent the extension letter to my realtor. This is not a legitimate company, and even though she said my $4500 was guaranteed, it is obvious that she has no plans to give it back. The phone number is no longer in service and the web site has been taken down. I would like to see this person in jail, whether I get my money back or not, what these people do causes a lot of damage to hardworking people. This transaction cost me $4500 to Silver State, $500 to the seller, and $275 for a home inspection.
