My friend called me in a panic saying that some detective working for a law firm had called him saying that he was investigating an alleged bank fraud, naming me as the defendant and that my friend was listed as being involved. He had information on my friend such as previous and current addresses date of birth and social security number or part of it. He had my friend believing that he would be arrested if he or I did not settle the claim. Shortly before that, my former landlord had sent me a note saying that some Investigator Williams had called his number looking for me and wanted me to call him back. i called the number but got an automated voice mail so i hung up. My friend gave me the same number so I called it again and some guy with a deep voice answered. I asked for Investigator Williams and he said he was Investigator Williams. I identified myself and he pretended to look up 'my file' then he gave me some very credible info on a loan I had a few years ago which had gone into default. He had all relevant info, down to the license plate number of my vehicle and said that the case was about to be sent to the county prosecutor's office and I would be arrested for attempting to defraud a bank unless i settled the matter that day. I told him I could not make a lump sum payment but I could make some arrangement and he pretended to consult with his superiors for permission. He then told me i had to make the first payment in the amount of $571.69 which I did by debit visa card. He even gave me a confirmation number. Later, after I had cooled off and had time to think, it dawned on me that I may have made a mistake so I called back. No one answered so I left a message on his voice mail. He returned my call and i asked him for more info about his law firm. He gave me the address and phone number for the Corporate office in Georgia and said that he operated out of a field office in Fairfax, Va. I asked him for the address and had him spell out everything for me and he did.I asked him a few more questions and i could detect the hesitation in his voice and i became more convinced that this man was a scammer but I did not want to alarm him just yet. I thanked him and hung up. I went on Google and looked up the Georgia address and it came up as an empty location. I tried the Virginia address and the street name did not come up. I have since cancelled my visa card. I also contacted the Virginia office of the FBI and they gave me some advice and told me to contact the Washington field office, which i am about to do. i want to warn people about that man. Here are the addresses and phone numbers he gave me. His office: Epstein Coffman & associates
2859 String Street, Fairfax, VA, 64829. Phone: 703-348-7253 ext. 102. Corporate office: 5664 Peachtree Parkway, Suite 150, Norcross Ga, 30071. Phone: 800-723-2510. I called that 800 number and got the exact same automated answer that I got when I called the "field office" number.

  • I received a very similar call from a man with a heavy accent, stating that the cops would come to my home and / or my job to subpeona me to court if I didn't pay a loan on the spot. At first I was so nervous and almost paid out of fear but as I put more thought into it, the loan I had was not even due yet. He refused to give me enough details and said it was a loan taken during a month when I knew I didn't take a loan. When he threatened to take my kids, I played along and asked if he would seriously take my kids away; he said yes! Well I have no kids! In any event, he called my employer, my cell phone, etc. and eventually I tracked the phone numbers; one was to "Phone People" which is a company that sells phone numbers to businesses and the other was a cell number. He said he was Officer Austin but it was all a scam!
