On August 21, 2012, I visited the Jiffy Lube at 35 Broad Hollow Road in Farmingdale, NY for an oil change after seeing a young man that morning standing in front of the Jiffy Lube holding a sign that read “$10 off oil change”. I had called the day before and was told that the price for an oil change was $22.99, even though your website advertises an oil change for $19.95 with a coupon.

I was asked into the garage, and while standing at the computer with the technician, I was asked if I preferred ‘regular’ oil change or synthetic. I specifically told him that I preferred the regular oil change and not the synthetic. At that time, I was told that my air filter needed to be changed and that the regular price for a new air filter was $29 but that there was a special that day and the price would be $20. I agreed to the air filter being changed.

After being told that my car was ready, I approached the cashier and was told that my bill was a whopping $71. I then asked about the “$10 off” deal and was told that in lieu of the $10 off, I was ‘upgraded’ to synthetic oil – after specifically telling the tech that I wanted regular oil. When I pointed this out to him, he said that they would drain the synthetic oil and give me regular oil. Being pressed for time, since I was on my lunch hour, I turned him down, paid SEVENTY ONE DOLLARS for an oil change and an air filter, and left. I believe that I was a victim of discrimination since I am a woman and went there alone – without my husband.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. I had been there several times and felt that, although the price was a bit higher for an oil change than at my local gas station, it was a convenience for me to have an oil change done to my car during my lunch hour.
