On Wednesday, June 22, I entered my credit card number into the Bidrack.com website in preparation for entering an auction for a Kindle Reader. On the website it has the statement “Register Now, It is completely free”. But it did ask for my card number, which I, in good faith, provided, anticipating that the company would need that number for the Kindle that I intended to purchase.

To the left of the card number is a series of options for bids with a cost associated with them. On top of the page is an amount—which I discounted, because I did not elect any of the options and registration was supposedly free.

I placed several (under ten) bids, and realized that this site was not working for me, and called the company to cancel my registration. I was told that I had been charged $99 for 175 bids. However, my “account” only shows 94 bids. When I re-registered under another name, I noticed that the $60 (100 bids) choice is pre-selected.

When I contacted the company to request a refund, I was told that they could not refund my money, but offered me additional bids (“But what I have gone ahead and done for the inconvenience, is give you 120 additional bonus bids which is a $80 value. These bids have already been added to your account.”) There are no additional bids.

I feel that I have been defrauded. The registration was not free as advertised; the number of bids was preselected; the number of bids that I was given did not match the number that I supposedly purchased; and the money was immediately charged to my card.
