    • YourOwnStore.co.uk (Bright Light Media Ltd.) Complaint / User Submitted Image #147229

In September of last year (2011) I purchased an online franchise website from a company called YOS (YourOwnStore.co.uk), a company that is a part of a bigger online company named bright light media.co.uk. There sales pitch was unbelievable, high profits and a part-time one hour a night work plan that I couldn’t resist, and I bought straight into the plan they were offering. They offered fantastic gains in profits, and the biggest sales point was a money back guarantee offered to anyone who reached the company’s goal but was not making money within one year of purchase.

I live and work in Japan and I purchased my site through their online purchase page.

Next, I dived straight into the training material the company offered. After a while I started to feel that the one hour a night part-time approach was unrealistic and that the whole process of building up my site was indeed a full time job.

Another point I noticed is that other owners of other sites purchased from the same company were concerned that a misleading of profit gains was sold on the company’s behalf. The websites work as an affiliate website that we as the sites owners advertise for other company’s and get a commission from said retail companies if we refer anyone to them. What was advertised when I purchased the site was different to what was being told to other owners, and if anyone tried to ask this question to YOS in the owners forum their message was deleted without any explanation by the YOS company.

As time went on I couldn’t work on my site and unfortunately I had to let my site slip into limbo.

In time I found out that the company was secretly offering a resellers list. I say secretly as this was not advertised as a service and only a select group of special owners knew this.

I say special owners because there was a huge concern within the owners group that a select group of owners where allowed to test new software and where given extra help with the websites that was not offered to all owners. I must say that this may only be a rumour and I have no evidence that this is real.

When I inquired about the resellers list I was quickly replied to in a forwarded email that my site would be included on the resellers list. I was happy, but no information or detail on what will happen was ever given to me. I tried emailing the recipient in the forwarded email requesting what will happen next but only got half-assed replies. Such as, “we are dealing with it and we will get back to you.”

Over time I sent a number of emails and never got any reply, and in the end I wrote a complaint email. I can only send emails as I am based in Japan.

I got a prompt reply stating that the company was not ignoring me and that they were trying to sell my site. But, know where in the email did they say what they were doing in terms of selling my site and what was happening.

Another point is that in the email they said that my site was on an old design template and that it was unattractive to possible buyers. They asked if they could redesign it and I said yes, and they replied saying that they will email me when everything has been finished. No email has been recieved.

I have sent numerous emails and had no replies and just the other day I received an email saying that all email communication will stop and only over the phone communication will be accepted.

I really feel like that they are trying to push me away. I know they won’t sell my site, and I am getting tired of keep asking what they are doing in terms of selling.

I have had no reply or any sort of communication in the last two months. But, when I sent an email the other day complaining about their customer service skills and that I will reprot them to “watchdog” I got a rude prompt reply saying that if I use the words “watchdog” in future they will take it in terms of backmailing and will have legal action taken against me!

This company is a SCAM!

  • Please see the last email we have received from the above complainant:

    Dear Jason,

Firstly I would like to apologies for the unfortunate situation that I have put your company and you in. I hope you can accept my apology.
To be honest I have been thinking long and hard about the situation that I find myself in, and honestly I never wanted to be where I am now.
Yes, I wanted to sell my store and I wanted it gone as fast as possible, the reason for this is because I was at a fork in the road scenario, I.E. I wanted to keep working on it as I invested my money and I wanted to sell it on because I no longer had the time to work on it.
Now I find myself wishing I never took this argument to the level that it is at now, and I wish I never prompted myself to be a leader within the Facebook group.
So, from the sending of this email I will remove myself as a leader from the Facebook group and I will send my “guarantee that I will no longer participate in a way that will feel like I am blackmailing or sending hate feelings towards the YOS Company”. You have my guarantee!
I am writing to inform you that I wish to continue to participate within the YOS franchise program, but I would like reassurance from you that the work (limited in mine; once a week) I put in will not be in vain. And with the situation and the emails that have been floating about I need that reassurance that it will succeed. Can you provide this to me? If you are unable to provide the reassurance then I would like to continue with the selling of my store.
Second, I no longer have the desire to build up a software website as feel I might lose interest in the near future, and again request you to resell it again.
What I want to ask is it possible for you to swap/ change my website for another within the PC Games Ninch or the Martial Arts Ninch. Is this possible?
Anyway I would be grateful if you could email me back with your answers.

  • Jason West, what do you have to say about this letter sent by your (maybe former???) Technical Manager to one of the website owner?

'I understand you feel let down completely. We have had some serious thinking to do about the way we advertise our stores, and we've actual got a legal team, and a team from Affiliate Window to go over what we say. Of course you know how we calculate the "earnings" of a store, but getting the traffic at the moment in the first place is proving a nightmare. Similarly, the EPC's provided by a retailer do not neccessarily reflect the type of product being sold... This sadly is the only data available to us at the moment. I have spoke to our sales team and marketing and things will be changing soon.
    ...

I personally don't want YOS to be bankrupted of course! I think the majority of customers who haven't got any issues with us also don't want that - as ultimately, they will suffer. I honestly believe the model and work and does work, but obviously your website needs traffic for that to happen. ...

We do have belief it will work, and it works well with traffic. I am consider that one day we will get the right combination to satisify Google, get the sites ranked, and ultimately help people make money - but we are ultimately at the disposal of Google, and off the record, they have "f**ked sites like ours over". We are attempting the counter this every single day, however, I can understand some people are in a real predicament and will get this sorted.

I do understand the seriousness of what is happening

I really hope we can part "as friends" as such, but obviously to do this, we do understand there is some work to do - I just hope we can be given a little time to get things right before the legal eagles clamp down on us. We really are working hard to get things resolved, trust me.

    Sam Davis / Technical Manager'
