I was employed by a company in Greenville SC called RTS. At first they didnt reveal they were distributors for kirby vacuum cleaners, (the reason being, as i later found out, was because of their bad reputation with employees and clients) Any how, i was told that i would be paid $800 bi-weekly as long as i did 15 demonstrations for their vacuum cleaners, and the appoinments to do these demonstrations would surely be set for me and all the other people who were emplyed with me.
I made financial commitments, as i believed i had gotten a new job and i would be able to pay back those i had committeed myself to.
As work began, i noticed that the appoinments which were verbally promised to be set for us werent set, and the appoinment setters had to go door to door looking for houses to get in so that we could do our demonstrations, and often times i would have to ask to help to go to doors to ask to do demonstrations because our appoinment setters werent doing a good job at hitting the required number of demonstrations that were required for me to get the $800. Sometime i was allowed, but, lots of the time, i would be told by the appoinment setters not to go door to door asking. Well it turned out that come payday, i was told i wouldnt be paid because i didnt make any SALES! I was not hired to sell, but to do appoinments, which i was told would be set for me and the others who were employed the same time as me. Besided i did get sales from my demonsrations, (meaning a closer that was higher up the company was able to get people to buy the vacuum cleaners of the demonstrations i did) but for reasons i dont fully understand, i wasnt paid on them. It was obviouly a set up, to ensure we didnt get paid for the work we did.
Even when i asked c.e.o to do some sales myself, i was refused and told to follow the lead of the appoinment setters.
