Back in October 2010, Great American Readers called my house. After trying to tell them "no" on the phone they began making several offers. After a while, I decided to go with an offer I thought was a good one. However, it turned out to be the worst mistake of my life. They do not follow up on their promises. Then they added an additional contract three months later. I was tricked by them. I thought they were calling about my original contract since I had not recieved the first magazine at that time. Later, I found out that I had committed to another contract for an addittional 2 years and hadn't even got the first one started. They began drafting from my account again. I asked them to stop and cancel because I didn't want it. They said I couldn't. That is ridiculous. They need to be put out of business. I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau. That didn't go as well either. GAR was supposed to refund me some money, but never got the check or credit back to my account as of today, 7/27/2012. I also never got the $1000 in shopping spree they promised over the phone. They are not a truthful company. I pray that no one else is scammed by them like others have been. Someone needs to put a stop to them. I don't even get all the magazines now that I was promised. I wished they never had called my house that day. Companies should be able to be sued when they call and harass people that way. They don't record that information during your conversation with them. They only record you saying "yes" and quickly try to get off phone after getting your information so that it is too late to cancel on the order. This has put a bad taste in my mouth with all businesses that call on the phone now. I don't trust any of them anymore. There needs to be a law to stop that kind of thing.
