I was recently part of a secret shopper scam. I got a letter in the mail (3 or 4 days after applying for a mystery shopping job on SimplyHired.com), so for this reason I didn't question it too much at the time.

In this letter was a check for $2,450 and a set of instructions for my first assignment. The first part was to put this check in the back using my debit card ATM machine, wait a day, and then do a "money in a minute" transfer to someone known as an undercover receiving person. He checked his database to find someone with my last name and it ended up being Katie Galloway. So I transferred about $1,924 to this name, thinking that because the check hadn't bounced and was in my account, that it was legit.

Once I wired this money using Western Union, I was given $100 to spend at Wal Mart and evaluate their customer service. I was then to fax these receipts to a specified fax number. The scam is that I have 3 days to complete these assignments (so that the check doesn't bounce before I have a chance to find out) and the check obviously bounced on Monday. So basically I lost $1,924.00 because the original check that was written to me was "bad". Is there anyway we can get this money back? The phone number I've given is actually the number for the guy I was in contact with during this whole process, so hopefully this can track you guys to him.
