ERS was called by the technician with ARS plumbing who responded to a water heater leak in our house. They visited on two occasions, first to assess the water damage and set up a dryer in the garage and then again three days later to collect the dryers. On both of those occasions they explained the "need" for removing large sections of drywall and doing repairs which would have cost multiple thousands of dollars. After it was independently determined that such extensive measures were not needed, ERS removed their dryers and left. The total amount of time that technicians spent in the home was less than 60 min. However, they charged us over $1000 for this service. The bill was initially sent without any kind of itemization. After repeated requests for an itemized bill they sent a handwritten breakdown which included multiple fees for the same technician visit - e.g. a service fee, a dryer set up fee, an assessment fee, gas surcharge fee, etc. The excessive fees are out of line with ethical and responsible business practices and the aggressive approach to bill collecting (I was called to find out why I had not yet paid less than a week after the service and two days before the bill arrived in the mail), indicates that this is a model that has been pursued repeatedly at the expense of consumers and homeowners. Additionally, the apparent collusion with ARS and the promises about insurance coverage indicate that there may be ethical issues here with efforts to overcharge and defraud consumers and insurance companies.
