I received a letter from Citi Financial based in Mesquite TX, advising me that I had won a "Consumer Promotion Sweepstakes Drawing". That my entry slip with serial number "2896NC" had won $50,000.00. The letter indicates that the selected stores in the drawing were; Wall-Mart, Sears, ASDA, Walgreens and Staples. I also was sent a check that is drawn on Willowbend Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for $3850.00, the check indicates that it's a Bank of America check whose branch is in Walnut Creek, California. The Citi Financial letter indicates that I need to pay a Non-Resident tax to a tax officer in London named Mrs. Susan Davis and that I am to contact Mr. Marvin Anderson and Ms. Linda Robinson to arrange for my payment. It's a scam- but how is Bank of America allowing this? Does the check not clear when deposited or because it's called a payroll check on the check, does that implicate the person depositing it? Has anyone contacted the Attorney General's office in their state? Why are the Wall-Marts' and Sears' not screaming that they are also being used by these scammers? I searched the CA Attorney General web site but found no information. Thank you to scambook for posting this and the other reports on this fraudulent activity.
