A kid came and knocked on my door around noon. A very well dressed and well spoken young man. He said he was raising money for school for a charity for a couple of hospitals. I had just woken up and wanted the kid to leave me alone so I wrote him a check and sent him on his merry way. As I came inside I found a few things odd. The first being that all of the local schools were already dismissed for summer, the second being that he said he was from the neighborhood and that i have lived here for ten years and never seen him. Lastly, He had me make the check out to a company that he said would have no involvement in the charity. I hopped in my truck and tracked the kid down. I called him over and asked him for his ID so that I could see if he was really from the neighborhood or not. He refused and acted completely upset that I had just questioned the validity of his presentation. I asked him what school he was doing this for and he told me the Le Cordon Bleu in Chicago, IL. I called the institute and they are not even in session at this time. Finally, the kid gives me my check back saying that he does not want to deal with me being a hassle. I tore the check and the generic receipt he had given me. If any of these kids approach you kindly tell them to go away. They are being scammed just as much by these companies as we are and to shed a little light to them on what is really going on may be the best way to end it.
