Thank goodness I found your site!!! Your site showed me I am not the first to write a complaint about this scam. These people have been trying to do this scam for at least 3 years and I almost fell for it!
The scam is Robert and Jane Gank state their son died and they have a 1988GL to give away to a responsible person. All I need to do is take care of the shipping. This story is SO convincing, even I believed it and I'm a HUGE skeptic!
My first clue that something didn't feel right, is when I was told to contact a mover named Julian Rouse at Strawberry moving company. There are 5 people on FB with this name, but none mention a moving company. Then I googled in Strawberry moving company and found nothing at all! I won't use a moving company that doesn't have a website, BBB endorsement, etc. I realize that a reputable moving company won't use an AOL address either.
I am an avid motorcyclist and a biker who knows anything about GL1500's would mention that this is a Honda Gold Wing. There was NO mention of the brand or word Gold Wing in the ad I read.
The one mistake I made was this 'Robert Gank' asked for the address and phone number where the bike would be delivered and my contact number. STUPIDLY, I believed him when he said he needed this information to let the mover know where the bike was going to be delivered. He told me he already had Allied movers for his household items & had contacted a bike moving company, since his stuff and the bike were going to different places.
I am lucky I did NOT give out any financial information or my SS#, but if this scammer is experienced, he might be able to figure out how obtain it with just my name, address and phone #??? It's too soon to know if he/they will try to take money out of my bank or credit card accounts.
To be on the safe side, I will be alerting my bank and credit card companies.
And I will do my best to report this to as many scammer sites as I can.
