I wrote a book that received a Writer's Digest Inspirational Award about my pet rescue charity. I wanted to release a second edition with a publisher who would see it through to selling at least 100,000 copies and I found Sheryn Hara/Book Publisher's Network through the Pacific Northwest Bookseller's association. Hara came to my house to meet me and boasted that she had been doing this nearly 30 years, said she had the Seattle times review all her books and with her, I would be saving money. Hara had all the people working with her who I needed to reach my goal and I spent over $20,000 on this edition. I was to maintain full control over my book and it was supposed to be copyrighted in my name. I paid for everything up front, including the books, and Hara had the books sent to her distributor. Hara and her people all assured me that the money would be rolling in after a little while. Just when that should have started to happen and there were orders of about 400 copies a month for my book, Hara and her people all terminated their relationships with me. I was never given a final accounting per the contract, never had my deposit returned and have proof that Hara continues to sell the books that I own and is keeping the money from them. We also have proof that she has them available in unlimited quantities, which means she is reprinting them without my knowledge. I have run out of money to continue to pay attornies to go after her but have learned I am not the first or last person who has had this experience with her.
