We were in Puerto Vallarta in January and invited to a presentation at Mango in which we were told we would receive $400 to listen to the presentation which turned out to be for a unit in a World Luxury Destinations building in Puerto Vallarta. We went on the tour of a very luxurious unit but of course had no interest in purchasing. We are owners at Mayan Palace in nearby Nuevo Vallarta. After being clear that we had no interest in any of the many deals they offered, they then offered to buy our unit at Mayan Palace, which interested us. They claimed they were buying it for their own purposes so they could use it to entice people to stay there at Mayan Palace and then they could give them their presentation at WLD. We had a nice young Mexican sales rep. It was the closer, a very nice African American, who made the suggestion that they could purchase our unit from us-he just needed to call up his high up contact at Mayan Palace to make the deal and get the price of the unit. The price came back higher than the equity that we had in the unit so it sounded like a great deal for us. We just needed to have them take out $6000 from my credit card to use for the processing expenses but that it would be fully reimbursed at the closing along with the full price that they guaranteed for the property. It would take about 45 days to complete. I had the same list of characters that others have referred to that I have been in contact with throughout this time period. I was just told that the various searches were complete and now there is a broker involved who I need to fax my signatures to as she has a buyer who wants the property at $17,000 more than I had been promised. At closing I just need to give them a 8% commission when I receive my check. This was not the deal I had been guaranteed. Of course it sounded great because they were saying I would receive $49,500 instead of $32,000. I called the broker and said that of course more money sounded great but this is not what the deal is suppose to be and I did not trust it and I called Continental Resources and spoke to James Brooks who I had been speaking to all along and said that this did not sound right as there was not suppose to be marketing, but that WLD was suppose to be buying it outright and there had been no talk of a commission.
Today I called my credit card company, Citicard Master Card and they sound like they can help me out and will enter into a dispute with Continental Resources for me.
The second problem is that rather than take the $400 at the end of the sale presentation I fell for their offer for two round trip airfairs and a week at one of their resorts. The rational being that this will give their sales reps an opportunity to have another shot at us to get us to buy a unit. I should have taken the money. When I called the number to find out where they had properties I was told to fax my "contract" and they would email two certificates for the air travel. These certificates are suppose to be sent back with $25 for each. There was no information about what properties they have. I have contacted them through email asking for information about properties and saying that I was not suppose to pay anything but I have not gotten a response.
I have to conclude that the whole thing is a scam. I plan to fill our a complaint with the Texas Attorney General. All I know is that the company is suppose to be in Houston, Texas. I looked up Continental Resources on the Houston County Clerk website and found four names listed, all of which are suppose to be out of business, now.
I think that as many people as possible should file the complaint form on the Attorney General's website https://www.oag.state.tx.us/consumer/complain.shtml. If anyone has an actual address please post it. Thanks.
