Yes, that is how they spelled it in their letter, which is a fake way of hooking themselves up with the legitimate Mega Millions that is quite well known. Another sweeps letter with a check. I was to deposit it in my bank, then send them insurance and processing fees, which were covered by the check. By the time my bank would have discovered it was a bad check several days down the road (after I had wired the sweeps company the fees), my bank would have taken the funds out of my account.
In another situation similar to this, since the check was on a large bank with a local branch, I was able to visit the bank and verify that it was a bogus check. This time, it was written on a very small community bank, not local. So instead, I called the company who supposedly wrote the check and spoke to their accounting department. I was told that someone has done this to their company several times in the past and yes, it is a forgery. Just imagine: a communications company writing me a check in conjunction with a sweepstakes. Hey, everyone! We have access to much information via the Internet....so let's use it. If we each do our part, this can't happen to folks any more!!
