I received a call from this company, promising me a free $250 gift card to be used as I wished, in return for subscriptions to three magazines. I should have just hung up the phone - but the caller was very insistent that I take the opportunity to get the gift card, which had no strings attached. As it turns out, the so called "gift card" is a voucher program, requiring the holder to spend $100/month, for a $25 rebate for each $100 spent. This must be done with a major credit card. At no time was I informed that this was a voucher program: I was led to believe that I'd receive a gift card, like a pre-paid Visa, to use as I pleased. Also, I was told that I'b be charged $17.33/month. . .adding up to a little over $207. During a phone call that I initiated to cancel the subscriptions, I was told that couldn't be done, and that I could settle up for three payments of $83.22, which totals over $249. I have since blocked any future payments to this company, and am sending letters to my state's Attorney General's office, and the Better Business Bureau to lodge a complaint about these unscrupulous practices.

  • You want to lodge a complaint about a company when you didn't listen in the first place. Think about it, how much money would the company lose, if they just handed out free gift cards, and their customers just take it, and not pay for the magazines. It's a rebate system, so its fair that, you still receive your money, but so you can stick with the promise that you gave to the company. You know how many months, and how much your monthly installments were going to be a month. Sounds to me like you were just hoping for a gift card anyway, and said screw the company. Is that the way you conduct your business? If so why would you even contact the BBB? Because you are self-minded, and didn't listen in the first place. Why didn't you ask any questions about it, wondering how it worked, how many months, I mean they do take you on a recorded conversation stating how many monthly installments you would have, along with how much they would be a month. I have had their magazines for little over a year and have never had any problems. It's just people like you that don't listen in the first place then complain.

  • To tiredofpeople
You obviously are being paid by Subscriber Services or somthing because this is a scam of the first order! How are would the company lose money by giving the gift card when they already have your credit card # and have already taken the money for the magazines out of your account before you get off the phone with them? The said amount will automatically be taken out of your account each month for 2ears?

Also, they cheat you coming and going because the so-called gift is really a voucher where you have to spend a total of $1,000 ($100 for 10 months) to receive $250 ($25 for 10 months).

  • Anonymous, I had the exact same thing happen to me and agree these people should not get away with these stunts. I've also closed my account after being told I could not cancel. They only got me for $17.27, however I'm still reporting them.

Sorry for all the errors in my post to "tired." I also did not say all that I wanted to before the post accidentally submitted.

    Good luck to you!
