  • I got the same message from a Robert Hook today. Your report doesn't help. What did this guy do...other than send the poorly written inquiry? All craigslist inquiries are poorly written! Some times we let our paranoia get ahead of us.

I'm going to reply and hope he's a legitimate buyer, even if the odds are only 1 in 1000! I'll let him know that my "item" is still for sale and that he can meet me and pay cash for it. Seems like a low risk offer. A scammer won't respond. A buyer might.

  • If you got the same exact message than obviously its a scam, common sense, and I did give him a chance as I always do anyhow and he never responded. If you don't agree with my post than why did you even write anything to me just try it for yourself. I sell a lot of things on Craigslist and see this type of poorly written emails all the time I recognize a scam when I see one. And I don't know about you but when I inquire about something on Craigslist I don't write it as poorly as this, nor do I receive "real" inquiries written this poorly. if you do maybe you should go back to school or stop being lazy.

  • Luke,

I replied and yes, it was a scammer. I asked him to call me and he replied instead with a story about sending a certified check. End of story. I didn't reply and haven't heard from him again either.

All I'm saying is that if you're a regular seller on craigslist you need to expect these strange inquiries. It only takes a few seconds to reply.

"Poorly written" does not always mean scam. Even an intelligent fellow like you may have trouble with the use of the words than and then or forget to use a capital letter to start a sentence. But don't let their boorish behavior stop you from trying to sell him something. His money is just as good as the next guy's!

  • Poorly written also doesn't necessarily mean poor grammar either, such as confusing "then" and "than," I would easily overlook that however the way it was worded you can almost tell it was someone unfamiliar with the English language. which still doesn't mean its not legit, however most of the time it is the case. But As I said I always do give them a chance anyhow and they never respond. Maybe I should have updated the posting with the fact that they didn't respond but at the time I felt it was not necessary. sorry the posting was of no help to you.

  • I am glad I found this posting. I received a response from Robert as well. Supposedly, he is going to send me a certified check overnight. I pretty much knew it was a scam when he didn't answer any of my questions. I will not respond to him anymore. Sad, I was excited to sell my item so quickly. Bummer
