I got a call for a survey asking 3 questions and in doing so I would win a free cruise for 2 to the bahamas. The catch at the end was that it will cost me 118$ for taxes to leave the country. Now I just learned that it is against FTC regulations for Legitimate sweepstakes to require you to pay or buy something to enter or improve your chances of winning, or to pay "taxes" or "shipping and handling charges" to get your prize. If you have to pay to receive your "prize," it’s not a prize at all."

A real company will never make you pay $118 to get your prize - that's against the law.

  • I got the same call and spiel as jhancock. First tip off that something was wrong was how hard they were trying to sell me on this supposedly free vacation. From the beginning, the Sales Rep told me numerous times how great the amenities were, how wonderful and rare this opportunity is, and how they don't do this all the time, even after I repeatedly told him that I've been on a cruise before. Even when I balked at the $118 tax charge, and told them point-blank that I was not going to pay them, they kept on staying on the phone with me and arguing that I should take the deal. Huge warning! If it's free and so awesome, why are they trying to sell me so hard on it? After some digging, it is indeed a scam. BBB has numerous complaints against Carribean Cruise Lines (http://www.bbb.org/south-east-florida/business-reviews/cruise-lines/caribbean-cruise-line-in-fort-lauderdale-fl-92014161). I'm so glad that I didn't give them my credit card!!

  • This is not a scam! Even though you get a free cruise, you are still responsible for port taxes by state and federal laws. Anyone knows, that if you win a prize on "Price Is Right" or other game shows, you will be responsible for any state and federal taxes. There is nothing misleading about this free cruise offer, and you are not deprived of anything. You, in fact, will actually save 80% off your next Florida cruise vacation. You are only responsible for any drinks other than coffee or tea, gratuities (normally 12%, which is quite normal for any cruise ship), and any gambling on board. You are also responsible for any shopping (which is tax and duty free in the Grand Bahamas), and any activities activities in the Bahamas that require a fee, such as a Banana Boat ride, scuba diving, etc.

  • Wow you sound just like the salesman on the phone. Regarding your comment about the price is right, the only way you would be responsible for state and federal taxes is if you win a CASH prize. Just like gambling, those are taxed. You can read this clearly on the FTC website that it is ILLEGAL to for Legitimate sweepstakes to require you to pay or buy something to enter or improve your chances of winning, or to pay "taxes" or "shipping and handling charges" to receive your winnings. Also, being someone who was a victim of this scam, with proof that was submitted to scam book of my bank account statements to make this post, you can safely assume that this IS a scam.

  • And, this is not a sweepstakes. So, the FTC rule does not apply! It is a advertising promotion. Send people on a cruise and fill cabins that would otherwise be empty. Let them have fun, and they will come back home and tell friends and family about the fun they had, and possibly re-book for another cruise in the future. It is called word-of mouth advertising!

To quote directly from http://my2012vacation.com/, "Caribbean Cruise Line is currently running a very exciting promotion offering a FREE 2-Night Bahamas Cruise for 2 Guests! Most people of course ask us why and how we can do this…well it’s simple.
Rather than spending millions-of-dollars branding our name on Television and Billboards, we spend it by giving away FREE promotional cabins to thousands of families, so that they may experience a great time first-hand. We are confident that you and your guest will enjoy yourselves so much that you will become repeat guests, as well as tell your friends and family about the wonderful time you had onboard and in the Bahamas. We believe that our well-appointed ship’s amenities, premium service, delicious foods, and spectacular port of call will entice you to come time and time again. And, we’re so sure of this, that we’re giving you this first cruise as a gift!"

  • By the way, I plan on going myself in the future, because I have compared prices with similar cruises, have made myself knowledgeable, and know that I will save money on my first cruise.

  • awww looks like somebody doesn't like to see the truth and likes to believe what they read on a website. Well guess what, anybody can create a webpage and say what they want to entice people to be scammed. I was like you before I got screwed over by my2012vacation.com I read everything on the site while I was on the line with a representative and then I thought it was legit. Well guess what, it isn't. Like I said before my bank statements were sent in to scambook and then they researched this site, and then THEY agreed that this is a scam. So, if you don't want to believe it then go ahead and pay these fake taxes for this cruise and then you will end up like millions of other people, SCAMMED.
Also, all of your posts sound like you are one of the people that work there and you are not convincing anyone. Good luck ripping anyone else off in the future and get a new job.

I would also like to thank Scambook for looking into this scam by researching the company itself and creating this page so that no one else will fall into the fate that I did. Thank you.
