Complaint Description:

The coach for learning real estate investment has failed to complete teaching me and has disappeared. He does not answer my emails or telephone messages.. The coach's name is Vaughn V Milliron from the Strategic Market Development. I had paid the Institute of Wealth a bank transfer of $10,644 on August 2 for his coaching services. Discovercard informed me that since it was a bank transfer they have no way of recovering the money since they mailed a check. The agreement was that Mr. Milliron would coach me until I made back my entire investment. Not only did i not make a penny, but Mr. Milliron would frequently disappear for two or three weeks at a time -- meaning he ignored my emails and telephone calls and missed his coaching sessions. Now he has disappeared for over seven weeks. We were supposed to have another coaching session about 7 weeks ago. I have tried emailing him and leaving messages on two different telephone numbers without any response. I have tried calling two other coaches who work with him. I have left messages and neither one has returned my calls. The only excuse for such behavior would be if Mr. Milliron died or is in a coma. Otherwise, I can only conclude that this has been a scam. I want my money back. even if this person would reawaken and agree to work with me again, I could never trust this person. I have lost complete confidence in his trustworthiness and in his being a reliable person.

Additional Information:
Purchase Date: 08/06/11
Date Problem First Occurred: 11/10/2011
Purchase Price: $10,644.00
Disputed Amount:: $10,644.00

Payment Method:: Discovercard bank transfer
Sales Person Jack McCoy at Institute of Wealth 800-401-7184 ext. 208

My Desired Resolution:
If this was a scam, I would like a complete refund. If this was due to any other reason, such as the coach died or is in a coma or just negligence, I would settle for a refund of $9,000.

Thank you for listening to my complaint. If you could take legal action that would be great. if you cannot perhaps you could direct me to the appropriate Salt Lake City attorney.

Jeffrey M. Bernstein

Update: 03/01/2012

1. Besides the amount of $10,644 that I paid, my discovercard also charged me 5% of this amount in addition to the amount I paid.

Update: 03/01/2012

2.Way I was taught business I needed Mr. Milliron and coaches to make a deal. 800 number calls to my business number would go to them; they would make the deals; then I would get a certain percentage.

Update: 03/01/2012

3. In addition, I had no knowledge of or any list of their buyers. I needed buyers to purchase the short sales. Without these coaches I had no way of even making money.

  • Jeffrey, you are not being honest or fair. The facts are that you enrolled in a business training program and paid a tuition to a company called Institute of Wealth, not Strategic Market Development. As you know, that company hired my company and paid my company a small fee (just a few hundred dollars) to provide one-on-one training to you.

    Now, the agreement you signed clearly stated your training would last four months, and that my company would then continue to be available to assist you in closing transactions as long as you might wish.

    The reality is that my company provided well over five months of training, and at its own expense provided you with advertising and marketing materials. You also benefited from a lead generation program that provided you with 25 qualified prospects each month - at no expense to you.

    Eight weeks ago you were emailed a status report and graduation certificate reminding you that we had reached the end of the one-on-one portion of our relationship, and that we would now be available to help you close transactions as you made appointments or had potential clients contact you and us through your toll free business contact line. To this date, YOU HAVE NOT SET A SINGLE APPOINTMENT, nor has anyone called the business line to request information. Not one.

    I have neither died nor been comatose. I am abiding by the written contract you signed.

    Oh, and let's be clear about another thing - my company does NOT split profits with students. All your profits are yours; my company helps you close your transactions for free. Free, Jeffrey.

    It is truly unfortunate you have not been successful in developing appointments. However, I close this rebuttal by reminding you of the several times I discussed with you the need to visit people personally, both potential clients and potential referral network individuals. You have not done either of these tasks consistently, and therefore your business suffers.

    I wish you well.

  • There are always two sides to every situation, given. However it is always up to each person to discern between the lines. Jeffrey, I want to thank you for having the courage to post your side of the dealings with IOW. They clearly need to modify their plan if they intend to keep doing business. I for one have no intention of forking over that much money nor even half that much for a chance to drive their money making vehicle.
