The receipts from iTunes indicated the purchases were made in China on an in world game from a computer that had never been associated with my acct before (you'd think THAT would have been a red flag!)

It took 3 calls to paypal, numerous emails to iTunes and Paypal over 2 weeks time, plus closing my iTunes account, having my checking acct overdrawn as PayPal took the funds out and kept it for almost 2 weeks while "investigating"
Then paypal initially DENIED my fraud claim with this;

I bought ONE track from iTunes in Sept, and that creates a history with iTunes purchases?
That took a call again to Paypal who finally agreed to refund the money.
It took 3 more days to see the money in my Paypal acct, and 3 more days to transfer it back to checking, or pay $3 to take it out via an ATM

  • hey,

the same thing just happened to me a couple days ago on March 2, 2012. I received an email receipt from paypal saying I had sent $10.41 to iTunes store. My receipt looks just like how you show yours above.

I too am so frustrated and wondering how the hell this happened! I know its only $10.41 but the point is that someone made this charge and may make more!

My paypal account is linked to both my bank accounts and thats what this fraudulent purchase is using. Both my accounts since they try the first one and if that one doesnt go through they will try the next one.

So I too acted really quickly after I got that email receipt. I first disputed the charge, and then also found out that my account was set up for automatic monthly billing charges!! What the heck! So I also cancelled that right away since there was a button I could click on to cancel that.
Then I called paypal. The woman I spoke with said nothing can be done, I have to call iTunes and ask that they refund/reverse the charge.
So I call iTunes. They said I have to email that department. So I did. I am currently talking back and forth with this one guy from iTunes. They are still investigating it I guess??
I did purchase one song before also, like a half a year ago, for my brother using my paypal to pay for it.
iTunes told me I have an iTunes account, which I said I DID NOT MAKE because I dont even use iTunes!!
I also received an email receipt from iTunes the day after the fraudulent charge showing that it was for item: ????, ?????
NOW GO FIGURE ON THAT!! I CANT EVEN READ THAT CHINESE OR WHATEVER IT IS STUFF!
It also said seller was: Hangzhou MR.GLEE Tech. co., Ltd
and the type was for: In-App Purchase
I had to change my password and close my bank account! I still didnt see the charge post to my bank account, but I am still currently waiting and seeing what will happen next!
    THIS SUCKS!!

  • kinohi_808 Your seller differs from mine, I cant find the document that had the name on it, it was a game co a google search found- in .cn (China) and was an in-game purchase.
    Make sure you-

1)Get rid of iTunes entirely, the account, the software- all of it.

2)Be sure to CANCEL the billing agreement you have on file with paypal to iTunes, it's activated with your first iTunes purchase and allows you to make future purchases without havign to log into paypal every time to do it- it's normally done in the iTunes store software when you search for music and click on a track to buy.

    3)Change all passwords

    4) File a dispute immediately with paypal, and with iTunes

iTunes responded quickly and took care of their end of thigns, but it took 2-d days there, and several emails back and forth. Paypal initially denied my claim and it took phone calls and several emails to get it corrected.
Once they got their behind in gear they put a temp hold on the funds, and then a reversal.
All of that with paypal took about a week, meanwhile the money was tied up.
Then it took a few days for the funds to actually become available, and then if I wanted to trans back to checking it would take 3 more days, or paying $3 in fees to get it back right away from the ATM.

So, overall, expect this to take about 10 days to resolve, and your money will be tied up for 10 days to 2 WEEKS.
