In 2008 I purchased a 2007 PT Cruiser with about 15,000 miles on it from Westbury Jeep Chrysler. The salesman told me the powertrain warranty covered 100,000 miles and suggested I pick up an additional Zurich 80,000 mile bumper to bumper service warranty, which would keep the car fully covered up to nearly 95,000 miles. I agreed and purchased it from him. After driving the car I noticed the horn would stay down if you hit it and that one of the rear doors was very tight opening and closing. These 2 things suggest that the car was in an accident and the air bag had been deployed. When I took the car in for an AC repair in 2011 I asked them to fix the horn as well. They said my policy didn’t cover the horn repair and that I would have to pay an additional $140 to have it fixed. I mentioned that the horn was broken when I bought the car and they didn’t care. I wasn’t happy but I paid the $ 140. As soon as I got the car back I tapped the horn and it stayed down blaring for over 30 seconds. I immediately called them back and told them. They said they would fix it the next time I brought it in. In December I called to make a service appointment because the car was making a lot of noise and taking bumps very hard. The soonest they could get me a loaner car was 3 weeks. After a few days the knuckle joint broke and it had to be towed in. They didn’t have a loaner car but told me my service warranty would cover rental car expenses. It took them 12 days to repair the car. When I got the car back the horn was still broken and they said they were unable to replicate the stuck horn in the 12 days that they had it. I asked my service adviser Mike to please tap my horn, he did and it stayed down stuck on the very first tap. He said to make another appointment and they would fix it. After driving the car home I noticed to car was still taking bumps very hard and making noise. I called Mike back to make an appointment and he never returned my call. Over the next few weeks I left him a few more massages that were never returned and I even left a message with the manager Tim that was never returned. I didn’t know it at the time but I was being stalled. Finally I made an appointment with the front desk without ever speaking to either one of them. Mike called to tell me that the bushings needed to be replaced and that my warranty expired at 80,000 miles. My car had 80,100 miles on it. I told him I bought an 80,000 mile extended warranty from my salesman at Chysler and the he specifically sold it to me as something that was cover me up to 95,000 miles. Mike said he shouldn’t have done that. I called Zurich and told them what I was sold and they said they sold you one thing but you were given another. So now they’re asking me to pay over $800 for new bushings even though they completely ignored the bushing while they had the car for over 12 days to fix the knuckle and the car was under warranty. I said don’t replace the bushing but just fix the horn that I already paid for. I picked up the car yesterday and when I got to the corner I hit the horn and sure enough it stayed down. I went back to the shop and they said it would cat an additional $550 to repair it. I said forget it and asked for my original $140 back that I paid for the horn that was never fixed. They refused to refund the money but said they would credit it towards the 550 for the new horn repair as if they were doing me a favor. I left and when I got on the highway I went to turn on my radio and it didn’t power up. They had broken it during the last failed attempt to fix the horn. If I didn’t have a sense of humor I might have lost my mind. Every single encounter I’ve had with Westbury Jeep Chrysler has been a scam of one kind or another. From the salesman that lied about the warranty he sold me to my broken horn to the service center that stalled me until my warranty has expired….a warranty that they knew ended at 80,000 miles but I thought was good till 95,000 miles. Also I have yet to be reimbursed for the rental car I needed while they held my car for 12 days. I called Zurich yesterday and they said they still haven’t received the paperwork they need from Westbury Jeep Chrysler Dodge…paper work that is now 2 months old.
In my humble opinion this place is a crooked from top to bottom. I am in the process of building a website that fully catalogs my experience with this terrible organization. The more people I can warn away from this group the better. You have been warned.

  • Dear Mr Volz:
I am the owner of Westbury Jeep Chrysler Dodge. I am very sorry that you were not satisfied at my dealership. Nothing is more important than satisfying you. After researching your situation, I found that my staff met with you yesterday and offered you a loaner vehicle and an immediate look at your car which you decided against. I understand your concern with the warranty expiration. Every certified used vehicle is sold with a warranty from origination date of sale and original miles. Your paperwork will show that and we are meticulous in our presentation for the exact reason here. We are dedicated to satisfying our customers...not alienating them. My staff repeatedly apologized to you while you were hear. I would absolutely try to help you in this situation even though your warranty expired. You can reach me at 516-333-2666 ext 221.

  • Mr Sporn, As far as the warranty goes I will admit that I am as much to blame as your salesman that misled me. I asked him point blank when the warranty ended and he said “95,000 miles”. I did not read the fine print. I took a used car salesman at his word....that one is on me…… My bad.
However I am not to blame for the following:
Paying $144 for a horn that was never fixed.
Having my car in your shop for 12 days for a simple repair.
Your mechanics not noticing my damaged bushing during those 12 days (while it was still under warranty)
Mike never returning my calls to make an appointment while I was still under warranty.
The paperwork Mike never forwarded for my rental to be reimbursed.
Your shop still refusing to refund my $144 for the horn that was never fixed.
Your repair shop trying to charge me another $540 to fix the horn correctly.
My radio not working when I picked up the car Thursday.
No Sir, the above things and more are on you and your staff.
And for the record, while it is true that your staff offered me a loaner when I was there on Thursday, you failed to mention that the loaner would not be available until Monday. Also your claim that your staff repeatedly apologized is false. I own two businesses myself and I’m very observant of how others speak to and treat their customers. No one apologized.Mike actually implied that I was wrong to come back to complain about the horn still being stuck. His exact words were “I can make any horn stick if you give me a few tries”. I pointed at a car in the lot and said “I’ll give you a hundred buck in you can make that car’s horn stick in 20 tries”….he declined. I still don’t know what his point was.
Listen Joel, write me off as a kook or a crank if you want, it’s your right, but if you were the slightest bit serious about doing the right thing the first thing you would do is return the money you took for the botched horn repair ….but believe me when I say "I’m not holding my breath"
    Sincerely, Dave Volz
